Hey guys i havea sked this question though it was some time ago now.

When i got my 99 Jimny it had a noise coming from the front of the car around the wheels/diffs/hubs. The thing is it only comes when i take off straight after starting the car (i.e, not waiting a second or 5), and also when i hit really bumpy road/roads ( tends to happen at this one spot on the way to work everyday).
Now i can make the noise go away by completing stopping forward momentum and when i do the noise slowly whirrs down and then clunks as if a gear or something is falling into place.
If anyone has ever heard of this i would be greatly appreciative, last time they replaced the solinoid for something and it worked...for about a week.



The second problem is also totally random, but when it happens if i let the revs off even the slightest amount of revs off the car seems to lose its power, but when i just slightly touch the acc. the car kicks back into life. Totally annoing.

Out of interest, next time it happens apply a bit of pressure on the transfer lever as you were putting it into 4h, not in to 4 but a bit of pressure, mine makes a bit of a "whirring metallic noise" usually after being in 4wd though and this stops it.

Thanks heaps, i'll give that a try. Yeah i wouldn't ahve a clue what it is aye, it is like the hubs are trying to lock or something like that. Wierd.

not really knowing the jimny's, but that could be the crank angle sensor that is known to fail.

Yeah i thought of that too thanks atari but not knowing jack i wasn't srue it could randomly just start occuring after already travelling 50kms straight. Next time i take it in for a service i'll demand satisfaction.

I think they suffer from heat soak

Will be the crank or cam angle sensor, from my experience it will be the hardest to get to as it will have less air flow..

so can you detail the fix for the crank sensor sounds like what mine does its like the engine cuts out but the ignition lights dont light up like theres a fuel block ?/

Crank sensor is at the back drivers side of the head. dead easy to replace. it causes the engine to cut out when it gets hot under the bonnet .

Does it keep running?? How many Km's??

yes it keeps running no misfire when it fires back up. 206 000klm had a horrible hiding before i bought it eg had bent front axle diff housing and transfer case was shattered

On your whirring noise... check your drive shafts... there is a dust slinger at each end where it goes into the box/diff... these have been known to become loose and give you this type of prob..................
On you 'cutout" prob... mine does simular.. intermittantly

We have our 2006 Jimny in at the gearbox shop at the moment. Was making the same noise as you described. Turns out a bearing has failed and the clunk and whirring was the gears bouncing around due to the bearing play.

Mine actually does the same thing, half shifting it into 4h stops it. Anyone know what causes this?

Yeah well half shifting into 4H rips the guts out of my trans so i think i'll leave it out.

Might try replacing the autohubs with some AVM or old sierra manual hubs.
