i bought an opensky awning for the side of my car the other day.
ive got rola roof racks to mount them on, the 4wd shop i bought the awning from suggested that i just drill L brackets into the roof racks and mount it on that... i'm going to use the L bracket idea, except find another way to mount the l brackets to the roof racks, i dont really want to drill into the rack.

anybody got any ideas (and or pictures) to mount the L brackets to the roof rack?

do the rola racks have a track down the middle of the cross bars?

yeah they do, although mine has a rubber strip down the middle covering the track. i guess i can cut it up if needed. did you just use t headed bolts

I have a sports rola rack and used the fittings above. had to grind them a tiny bit to them them fit. but that only took 10 secs on a angel grinder.

was unable to find the proper rola rack ones but i'm sure they make them.

haha yeah you can take that strip out, trim it up and slide it back in.

the local store for rola in my town are pathetic... that's why i use rhino ones

nah a set came with the awning.

and the price is also a reason I didn't use rola ones

You can pull the rubber strip out and use a couple of uni strut nuts inside the rack to hold the L bracket onto the rack, that's how I mounted mine. I also mine with the L turned down over the end of the rack rather than up, so that the awning wasn't sticking way up in the air

yeah i was planning on mounting it downwards.
might go visit bunnings first then see i i can get some bolts that fit in the track

Yeah bunnings have cheap brackets, i used some L-shaped brackets on my awning. Although i doubt you could use them like i have because you have rola.





I was able to bolt them in the channel, where you cant see it.

ended up get a 100x100x40 bracket, some washers and nylon lock nuts from bunnings, went over the road to autoone( or was it pro) whom sold thule bars, thule do this kit for mounting some of thier stuff, turn out its been made to be compatible with other types of bars (including rola).

was able to mount the brackets downwards without it fowling on the door.
anywhos its now sitting on the side of my car.
