I went wheeling at Levuka last weekend. I had made some 2" extended shackles and borrowed the young fella's 29's, and what a difference it made to clearance, but what a pig to drive, virtually nil lateral stability. Dropped driver's front wheel into a hollow down a hill and nearly fell over - luckily it was in a gully and I could put my arm out and save it. Not much fun to drive on the road either, so how much difference could I expect if I fitted WT diffs? I really like my f10A, but I don't think it would like higher diff ratios, so is there such an animal as WT diffs with 1.0L ratios, and if so are they a rare and sought after commodity? I can visualise the conversion, and recall seeing the brackets for sale somewhere, but is it worth the effort

Yes WT is worth it. Yes you can get 1L ratios for WT diffs. They can be found in ANY WT Maruti. Must be a WT model though. Yes, someone here sells new perches, and can even use his JIG to glue them on for you

Can the centres in the 1.0 WT diffs be changed should I change to 1.6 down the track?

yep. WT 1.3, NT 1.3, and WT maruti are all interchangable. They also accept vitara front R&P's, so that opens up more gearing options should you be chasing reduction at a later date.
I must stress that it is ONLY the wt maruti (4.11:1) that will fit a 1.3L housing. The NT maruti is identicle to your current diff in every way.

This is worth it too, atleast get something that is the same or lower geared than 1ltr, when I put the WT diffs in mine I used NT 3.9 centres and that was even annoyingly noticeable.

the maruti diff centre combined with a 1L transfer case makes the car just about perfect on the road with 31's. my tired old 1.3L engine can still haul my maruti along at 100, more if it feels like it.

not sure if this is the right tread to but this in but its better then starting a new one. I have just started doing this conversion to my 1.3L LWB NT sierra. my question is would the diff ratios between the 1.3L NT and the 1.3L WT be the same? the reason i ask is cause the WT centre won't bolt up to drive shaft. what is the easiest fix, swap the diff centres or can you undo the nut on the diff flange and swap them over?
what are the ratios of: 1L NT diffs 1.3L NT diffs 1.3L WT diffs
Thanks greg

You can change the flanges pretty easily, worst case if you don't have flanges to swap you can slot the hole on one (bolt still can't spin out because you've only slotted one flange).
Afaik 1.3L NT = 3.9 ratio 1.3L WT = 3.7 ratio

Swap diff centres The NT front centre is 4 pin (which is better), the WT is 2 pin The NT ratios are also a little more useful (there is an annoying difference between 3.9 and 3.7, it isn't much, but you do notice it). Revving 5% higher is tolerable, revving 5% less than ideal is irritating, because you will be between 4th and 5th a hell of a lot!
