Hi All,

My last two external fuel pumps have seized on my sierra with a g16b conversion.

First thing they where both from other cars (vl commodore) so it could just be bad luck and the pumps where old.

Currently I'm just running fuel tank > external fuel pump > fuel filter > engine > return line

Am I missing something? Do I need a lift pump?

I'm looking for a coily tank but the ones I found are out of my price range so for now I just need it running.

Anyone have any tips.. Will buy a new one when I have the funds.

I'd be running a fuel filter between the tank and the pump to stop any crap getting in the pump. Also leave the one between the pump and the engine as a little more security. I reckon there may have been a bit of crap got into the pump and stuffed it

im reasonably sure that vl's ran a scavenge pump in the tank to supply the external pump as the struggle with drawing up the fuel causing premature failure

your right pez all rb30 vls run a intake then a external pump

In my g16b sierra. I had tank to filter to lift pump to Vl turbo pump to surge tank tohigh pressure filter to injector rail then I upgraded the return line and feed line.

I never had my Vl pump fail. However my lift pump failed once I think cause it had no prefilter which is I why I then run a prefilter

How much crap in your tank? I reckon a scale of rust or something has seized them up. If the pump is mounted near the tank and is not ridiculously high, it should have no problems priming and working correctly whilst having a long life. A large low pressure fuel filter before the pump would be a good idea. Last time I got a new pump it was only $40 from repco.

Thanks for the responses guys. Might run a lp filter before the fuel pump this time. Basically the fuel pump is mounted where the original sierra fuel filter was.

Not sure what condition the inside of the tank is like. I might try and pull the tank out.

I was quoted $160 for a new external fuel pump from Repco. Which pump did you use?

Just some generic brand inline pump for a VL. Maybe they bumped the prices back up..
