Anyone had their break master cyclinder replaced?

just been to the mechanic and he said mines leaking so i need a new one,
i was looking on suzukistore and they have them for $249, my machanic said its going to be $450 even before fitting,
how does this sound to everyone?
a $200 jump seems a little extreme to me

anyone had one done?

It sounds like you need to find a different mechanic.

Well I bought some of their rear brake cylinders, and they seem to be ok.

If I personally needed a new master I would get my OEM one rebuilt. There is a mob near me who rebuilds them and replaces the insides with stainless steel. Its a bit more expensive ($250 i think a few yrs ago), but I had it done on my old corolla and worked good.

As for hours to put it in, I wouldnt expect a mechanic to take no more than 3hrs (3 x ~$90/hr = $270). Pluss some brake fluid...

yeh but i think the $450 was just part supply price, it would be fine if it was supply and fit but i dont think it was

I wouldnt hesitate to buy suff off greg at 4wd products.

I run a master cylinder from 4wd products. Not yet had a drama with it.

It shouldn't take any mechanic more than an hour to remove replace and bleed the system.
$250 fitted would be more than fair I'd say.

Try any parts shop? Repco? Bursons?

They are all going to supply an aftermarket item.

It's not uncommon to have steep price differences, a week a go at work we had a triton where between two different year models the price jumped 200 bucks, and they only had a different pipe fitting, and as it was said earlier 1 hour labour sounds about right
