99 Jimny has begun to get a very horrible metallic squeal when under throttle. Squeal picks up with acceleration, no squeal when stationary.
I originally though it might have been breaks however sticking head out while driving sounds like it is coming from central under the car.
Book on one drive shaft was gone so I pulled that apart and found a badly worn CV joint which i could do nothing with but clean, re-grease and re-assemble. There is alot of clunking when crawling forward from stop and I believe that this worn CV is the cause of that but not this squealing noise.
I changed oil in Diffs, Transfer and Gearbox.
My only thought is it could be a wheel bearing, but I jacked the rear and spun the wheels and have been unable to replicate the noise.
Is it correct that the Jimny has a belt driven transfer? if so could the noise be originating from that and does that tie into it happening under throttle?
Any other suggestions on things to check or test to perform to find the cause of this?
