hi guy's.
i have a j20a 99 GV auto with the alloy front diff housing. have found a 03 GV that had a h25a at the wreckers with a steel front diff complete. forgot to look if it was a manual or auto.

is this a complete swap over? or would i have to change the actual diff and pinion? same diff ratios?


also are the free wheeling hubs from the earlier vitara's the same as what my GV would use?

The diff gears are likely to be different, unless it's auto.

And the free wheeling hubs are off the old Vits, yes.

Yes, you'll need a diff shop to do the install.

Depending on what your trying to achieve as to what ya do.

Being a J20a Auto you would have 5.12 ratio gears. Auto V6 would have 4.8's Manual V6 will have 4.3

Best option is use your R&P on a Vitara center and have that installed into a steel carrier and housing from a Manual V6 GV. this removes all the Air engagement stuff from the GV front diffs.


Its recommended to get a diff shop do the install. You could do it yourself but you really need to know what ya doing.

Well i was at the wreckers looking for a bonnet hinge when i seen the steel front housing and have read that they are a good upgrade in strength over the alloy housing. So thought i should look at getting it. I am putting free wheeling hubs on as well.

Hrmm.. they have a couple vitara's there too, that's what i am getting the free wheeling hubs off.

Im not so sure about that.

Bohuler had a manual GV with the J20 and it had 4.8's

the diffs we put in it were from a J20 auto and they were 5.12's

Maybe the SWB is different to the LWB.
