Hey everyone. I have an 89wt sierra with a g16b (from x90) It only seems to run on 3cyl. Has spark to all 4. Has fuel to fuel rail. Timing is right. I pull no.3 spark lead off and it doesn't change idle.
Just wondering where the logical place to look would be?
Cheers.

Have you tried changing the plug? Is the injector firing?

Vacuum leaks are worth exploring for. I'm not familiar with the G16B but a vacuum leak can cause a single cylinder to misfire

Have swapped plugs around with no changing results Not sure how to tell without pulling injectors out? Will have a close look/test the vacuum hoses.
Thanks

you should be able to check the injector pulse signal on the injector plug with a test light to see if all are pulsing

Hesitates and backfires. Still no number three. Vac hoses look ok. In tank pump (coily maybe). New fuel and filter. All injectors are pulsing. Could there still be blockage? I think compression test next?

Backfiring normally means timing related not fuel, if the motor runs a crank sensor then this could be the issue, coilpacks normally break down and hesitate but no backfiring

Compression test is all good! Guess I'll be pulling the injectors out. Is there any way to test on the bench? Or should i be taking them to a mechanic? Cheers

Mine backfired and 'missed' like mad when the stems had died (leads, whatever) - At first it was just one of them, then suddenly it was un drive-able when the coil pack went and took out two cylinders.
While it's running, unplug each stem and see if there's one that makes no difference.. that'll help isolate it if it's them.

Move injector to another cylinder and see if the problem moves across.

Well i pulled it all apart and then put it all back together and she's running on all 4! New problem! Starts fine, idles high (2500rpm). Once warm, it surges quite fast between 1500 and 1800rpm. What problems have others experienced resulting in these symptoms?
Cheers

I never have much luck just cleaning the iac always seem to end up swapping the whole assembly over as a fix
