I have found a LOT of good tips on here re this upgrade. We are reeeealy looking forward to getting this engine in as the old one is in need of a rebuild and is blowing smoke, and using oil and recently at glasshouse mountains, tore half the exhaust off...



Anyway..we are opting for this type of dizzy cap as it is a LOT cheaper than the angle conversion kits...



The reason for this post is I can't find the part number for the rotor required for this... The original is missing and I suspect it wasn't going to fit anyway and that is why the guy kept it. He supplied the new engine complete with sideways cap, ecu, loom etc etc to do the job.

Also... would it be best to have the fan controlled by the ecu or just have it on all the time with a switch for water crossings etc.. We have the fan already.

I will probably be adding Qs as we go.. but hope to not be a PITA ..Sometimes "search" just give too much info... Cheers.

Use a sierra/vit/Jimmy water pump and run a mechanucal fan

hhhmmm .That seems to be a popular option however I have just fitted an alternator off a ford to the new engine and all 3 pullies run a 4pk belt... If i run the mech fan am I going to have to swap all 3 pullies to the old V style belt or is there another fan that will bolt on using the existing 4 bolts on the water pump that is fitted to the gti ???

You will need to find a pulley to match the water pump pulley.
A jimny, baleno, or efi vit will correctly align.

A viscous hub mechanical fan from vits/jimnies are one of my favourite mods.

The stock Sierra fan is better than a thermos fan.

You may need to tinker with the timing tensioner dongle (the spring holder to place a load on the timing belt), but it is not a big deal.

Finally...engine in , new coily tank with vitara pump. Tomorrow I will make up bracket for throttle cable, find suitable place for ecu, install fan and radiator, fuel lines etc etc .. Will take a few days yet as wiring and tidying up loom always take time..
