Hypothetically speaking, if my front diff housing is leaking around the right hand spring perch, can I just weld it up or is it best to buy a replacement housing? Could this is any way have anything to do with my wheel bearings failing every 6 months? i.e. would a crack in the perch weld and the fact it's leaking suggest that the housing itself could be bent? Or is it nothing to worry about?

(I haven't checked/replaced my bearings as per an earlier post but I only noticed this today and thought it may have something to do with it)

Your bearings shouldn't be oily anyway, hence the axle seal.
Do you have a large offset or large tryes?

You should be able to just weld up the housing, but do it in small sections so as not to warp it too much.

The bearings aren't oily, the oil is coming out around the spring perch. I'll Weld it up in small sections like you said.

The only way you will be able to weld this up is if you strip the diff down and clean it properly. Diff oil is near impossible to weld through.

you sure its leaking from your diff housing and not from higher up? my right hand springs had oil on them when i over filled the steering box :S
