I was at SSS today, and asked about their small superchargers. THey have quite a few that are capable of delivering about 4-5 psi - I want to know if this will kill the motor prematurely? It is fairly healthy now, and bog stock.
I would look at rejetting the carbie also.

What kind of prices did they give you for the superchargers you looked at?
I agree, its a pretty cool idea.
I'm looking at turboing my stock 1.3 or supercharging. Havnt decided yet.

The stock carbies get a bit upset at the thought of boost, might need some work to get that bit working

It is a SC off a K car ( http://www.suzuki-forums.com/general-su ... -info.html) amd comes with a bit of grime.
The Kei cars are 3 cyl 660cc big blocks so for around 4-5psi, thier SCs should be ideal for a 1.3.
Rice is right, the carb may need to be swapped out for something else, still need to look into that.
If anyone is interested on one of these SCs, I can grab you one and probably mail it Aus wide for $220...

X2
Have always been interested in Supercharging my zook rather than turboing. These Kei ones could be the go? Keep us posted on the proceedings Lumpy!

IMO you're better off with something like a Eaton M45. Look at BMW Minis or Merc 180/200 for donors.

Cos you have to spin the shit out of those little chargers to get them to make boost. Mounting them is probably going to be easier though, so that makes them a more attractive option.

The Aisin Superchargers, like the Kei car ones, have an electric clutch (like an A/C compressor) and a mounting arrangement just like an Alternator, so mounting them is just like hanging an Alt off the block and plumbing up the air pipes. Because you want the S/c on the intake side of the block, the Alt has to move over to the exhaust side. Then there's deciding how the carb is going to fit. Suck thru or blow thru? It's probably easier to make it Blow Thru, but that can cause probs at lower revs.
Camden used to make a kit for the Suzuki using an Eaton M45, but the size of the body meant that the Alternator still had to move to the exhaust side of the block. Both these set-ups are poor choices if you want A/C or power steering.
B&M made a beaut little unit that the carb sits on top (suck through), and the body sits flat so the Alt can stay where it is, and now you have plenty of torque to run a 110a Alt, AND A/C, AND a Hydraulic winch at the same time.

Supercharging works to create more power by cramming more fuel and air into a given space. Carbs are simple devices that meter fuel by vacuum in relation to the flow of air past a Venturi.
Nothing changes in this relationship when the carb is upstream of the supercharger, and the accurately premixed Fuel/Air is compressed and passed into the engine. No modifications are required to the carb or jetting. The stock standard carb "thinks" it's working on a bigger, or faster revving engine flowing more air.
When the supercharger compresses the air before it gets to the carb, it upsets the balance. There is now denser air passing the venturi, which requires more fuel for a correct mixture, but the venturi only works on airflow. The air/fuel mixture is too lean, and at the higher compression ratios, this can cause pre-detonation and possible engine damage. You are required to fit larger jets to compensate. Also, depending on the particular design of the carb, with the higher pressure of the air passing through the carb, there may not be sufficient vacuum created to draw sufficient fuel (in fact, there could be positive pressure forcing fuel back into the fuel bowl), creating an even leaner mixture. Modifications to the carb are required to provide an air passage to the fuel bowl to equalise the pressure (which in turn runs the risk of crushing the float, upsetting the float level in the bowl and your fuel mixture). In this situation, the fuel is also becomes pressurised and the fuel pump needs to be adjusted or replaced to pump at a higher pressure to overcome the needle/seat. And lastly, depending on the condition of your carb (age, wear, etc), there is the chance of air leaking past the throttle shaft under pressure, throwing away any chances of properly tuning your carb.
All of these issues don't apply to EFI engines which can be re-chipped, or even "cheating" the MAF/MAP sensor with a variable resistor to supply more fuel.

So there is an element of danger with just slapping a SC on but a properly setup one would be safe and road friendly? And does it help with the lowdown torque?

They sure as shit ain't going to be $200...more like $2000 just at a rough guess. I looked into it a few years back to put onto a 360ci in my AP6 valiant, didn't do it to much $$$.
