Jimny = Unity Bearing = not adjustable

I drove every day on a bearing that was loose for 9 months (cant rush perfection) I doubt another weekend will matter much :)

Easy way to check where the wobble is, if it goes away with somebody holding the brake down its the wheel bearing, if its still there its something else, likely the kingpin bearings

Cheers Scrawn, I have a feeling the bearing will still be OK... fingers crossed. It's not making any noise but I guess I won't know until I have a look.

Thanks Royce. I had another look this morning. I jacked up the RHS front so I could jiggle the wheel properly and while I was underneath (I'd been relying on someone else looking while I jiggled... Haha that sounds funny)

Anyway I'm pretty sure that the King Pins are the culprit, prob the bearings, and could do with new knuckle pivot scraper thingys while I'm at it. The movement/looseness is all at the knuckle.

the seals should be dont pretty often, 5000km in 'severe' conditions.

the culprit is obviously your wheels, you should really swap with me to fix it :)

LOL a lot

I guess I'm bad. I've never done the seals but they've only done 140,000km.

Do you reckon the King Pins will be OK? I was thinking I'll grab some King Pin bearings and scraper seals today and chuck them in.

There aren't any actual king pins in your setup, that term is used pretty loosely  Once you've replaced the bearings it should all be ok.

I always thought the pins were the kingpins and the bearings the kingpin bearings, just a different layout to trucks and old Holdens

Make sure you are able to set the preload how the book says to do it, its pretty critical and the difference between getting another 140k out of them and fixing them up in 6 months

Not saying you're wrong, just in my mind they are swivel bearings. This is what I think of when I hear the term king pin

Can't find anything about preload just Torque specs for the Kingpin bolts.

Also for the spindle bearings they mention lithium grease. Does this also apply for KP bearings? Or just a quality bearing grease will suffice?

I'm just going by what this EBAY PDF manual says. How about the thingys that hold the hub to the axle tube?

I use a Moly (black) grease for the cv's and 'king pin' bearings and an Extreme Pressure (red) grease for the wheel bearings. Bolts are just done up tight but when you remove the king pins you'll see shims under them, make sure they go back in the same way.

Cheers. There's also a KP bearing outer race. Do you guys usually replace this at the same time or are they quite re-usable?

Also trying to source the bearings this morning. Am waiting for MOTOSPECS to open/answer. Any other ideas? SS at Lawnton don't open Sat.

Replace them, they only take a few minutes to knock out and in.

Motorspecs may not be open today, they're pretty casual down there. If all else fails try Ripco, check price though.

Going to assume jimny is the same as sierra, you put the swivel bearings in and do it all up without the scraper seals fitted and remove the steering arm and hook a spring scale in there (like they use to weight fish) and pull on it slowly and note what 'weight' it reads when it starts to move the hub, there is a set range it has to be in, to make it move at a higher weight you remove shims, at a lower weight you add

then you pull it all apart again and grease it up and assemble with the seals and stuff, bit of work but you dont have to worry about it again afer that

Oh well, looking like I'm not going to be able to get the parts today but I've got some great instructions here, thanks guys.

Hopefully I won't be doing too much damage in the meantime, will just have to take it easy although it is better at higher speed... centrifuge I guess.

I might get a full hub seal and bearing kit through the week and do the whole lot. Am I able to get spindle bearing out without hydraulic press, I'm thinking a large socket and rubber mallet ???

$170 seems a bit exxy to me although the wiper seals are genuine. Be careful you don't bugger the spindle like Rusho has done

Japanese bearings sound like a good thing too. What did Rusho do to his spindle?

Loose wheel bearing ground away the spindle, now there is too much tolerance and the bearing doesn't sit tight on it. He's replacing it with a Vit one.

Not that I would know but I'm pretty sure the wheel bearing is fine. Definitely getting the movement at the KPs. Hopefully I don't do similar to the KP.

I thought my KP were gone also, after I finished rebuilding them, Steknig came over to have a looky for me, and found what scrawny mentioned. I have some vit hubs now, just need to get the bearings. Does anyone know what year the vits had cone shaped bearings? I got a set of coily/vit/jimny bearings off weaves. There not going to be much help now. Ayone wanna buy a brand new set off me??

Yeah they suit my Jim I'd be interested. I take it they are unused and unfitted. How much are you after? I'm a little poor ATM.

I would say earlier model ones did. Any bearing shop will be able to tell you
