I have had a lot of diesel Toyota and Nissan 4WD vehicles but this is my first Suzuki, I have a 1.0 L sierra with the green 4wd indicator on the metal dash. I am able to engage and disengage from 4wd ok, but when I drive in 4h or 4l it almost feelslike the hand brake is on, the little girl is pushing to drive (or so it seems). As soon as you return to 2wd the problem goes away, any ideas of what to look at??

I'd be checking the front and rear diffs are the same ratio to start with.

Do not want to sound stupid, but how do I look into that?

jack your car up in the air and put it on stands, then mark you tyres with something white like a tire texta or a dot of wight spray paint where the closest point to the ground is.
get someone they knows how to drive and get them in the car on 4wd to put it into first gear and rotate the tyres...
you could aswell record this to slow it down on the comp, if your alone and have no one to do this with..

Are the tyres all the same size? Does sound like the transfer is binding up

Tyres are the same size, and the 4wd has worked fine in the past, is there a way I can fault find the transfer case (if that is the problem).

Get it up on axle stands. Then run it up in 4wd to check transfer and front diff and running freely.

Are your hubs unlocking properly?

Remove the front driveshaft, and then go for a drive in 4H. If it's still doing the "Like a handbrake" thing, it's in the T/case, if it's not, than it's a front diff/axle issue.

If you've only bought it recently, it's possible that the Previous Owner has not used it in 4wd for some time (a 1.0lt, it could be years!) and either the front output bearing in the T/case is seized or gunked up, or similar in the front end.

The zuk in question here is my old one.

When I first got it I replaced all the front bearings seals etc but did not look at the front diff.

I did have to replace the bush under the transfer stick as the old one was nearly gone.

303, it had regular 4WD use but I never bashed it about, it was my DD and I didnt want it damaged! I did break a tranfer case mount once, glued it back together until the new one arrived.

Slusher, you might want to re check those tyre sizes, I have a feeling they may be different.

303 has the idea, take the front drive shaft off and have a drive to narrow down the problem area.
