I have made up a kit for fitting Vitara power steering to a RHD Sierra / Samurai using a machined wedge to align the steering box with the steering column.

I have tested the kit on my zook and it fits well, but I want to get a couple of kits fitted to other zuks to make sure I haven't missed anything before I make any more.

Does anyone want to be a test pilot?

The kit includes the CNC machined wedge and fasteners to mount the steering box, a mount to adapt the Vit power steering pump to the block and the required fasteners, and a spacer to move the radiator mounting bracket to clear the steering box.

Parts requred are the Vitara p/s box with pitman arm, pump, factory pump mounting bracket, hoses and reservoir.

Installation also requires a collapsible steering shaft and multi-rib pulleys from a 1600 (or a 1600 conversion!)

The box is mounted as far forward and down as possible to allow use of the stock Vitara pitman arm, and to give room to move the axle forward without the steering arms rubbing on each other.

Below is a pic of the kit:

Price is $200 AU, and I will ship these first ones free.

Hey mate i'll take ya up on it. I've got all the stuff for a vit conversion sitting here ready to go (minus a resevoir).

I have a drop vitara to sierra pitman arm. do you think this would work ok?
if not i also have the vitara pitman arm. But have to ask, anything planned for adapting it to the sierra drag link?

One other question, i have a sierra V pulley to multi rib pulley (spider trax two in one type job). Will it be a prob if I have to modify the pump mounting bracket to line up the belts?

The Vitara pitman arm has the same taper as the Sierra, so will bolt straight up to the drag link
The drop arm will also fit if it is to suit a vitara box, and will help keep the drag link flat and prevent bumpsteer if you have a bit of lift.

I haven't got a Spidertrax pulley to check, but it should line up I would think. I'm sure they would have designed it to line up with the 1600, so they could use the same pump mounting brackets on either engine in their kits. If not, it would be easy to slot the holes out to make it work anyway.

I'll PM you about getting a kit over to you.

Yes, they are, and yes, they definately should be high tensile.

OK, feedback from the first kits has been good, so I have more power steering kits available if anybody else wants one.

The price has gone up a little to $220 due to machining costs. Shipping is $30 to anywhere in Australia.

Some people were asking where the steering box is positioned with the kit. The wedge moves the box forward 20mm over the stock position, so it will also allow people to move the front axle 20mm further forward than normal before running into issues with the drag link and tie rod rubbing.

The Baleno p/s pump is a little shorter than the Vitara pump. It has all the same mounting bolt positions, just a thinner pump section, so I suspect it would put out a fair bit less flow. From memory, the Baleno pump mount is also different, so may not bolt up to the pump mounting adaptor.

I've been looking for a PS kit to put a Sidekick/Tracker PS System on my Samurai when I came across yours. Not sure if this would work or if I should start looking for a Vitara PS System. Anyway, what would your cost be shipped to 23111 in the States. Thanks. Alan 8)

Vitaras and Sidekicks are the same for the most part, except for Sidekicks in the USA are left hand drive, while ours are right hand drive. For this reason my kit won't be much use to you, as its designed for rhd cars!

You can get similar setups for LHD from www.petroworks.com in the US
