Im looking at doing a full oil change in everything.

Just wanted to see what oils people are using. I've been told 80w/90 or 75w/90 for the diffs is ok. for the transfer castrol vmx 80, could i also use this in the gearbox too?

I've also been recommend to mix some moreys in with the transfer and gearbox, does it really make a difference?

Yes, you're pretty much on the right track. Ordinary Gear oil is what is intended for the Diffs, Gearbox and transfer. One oil will do the lot, which means you can save a bit of $$$ by buying a 20l drum and getting a few oil changes out of that.

IF you want to go to better performing oils, yes VMX 80 can be used in both the Gearbox and Trans case, but must not be used in diffs. Limited slip gear oil is much better for diff gears, but cannot be used in gearboxes which have bronze synchros (ie Suzuki g/box and Trans).

I use Castrol VMX80 in gearbox, transfer and diffs.

80w90 is what I use if you have a km on your transfer and gearbox I would use the vmx 80 but dont put it in the diffs they dont recomend runing it in the diffs

Why can VMX80 not be used in diffs?

Also what weight LSD oil do you reckon for the diffs?

Castrol STRONGLY advise against it. If you want and multi use semi-synthetic oil for both the gearbox, trans and diffs, use Syntrax 75w/90 which is a light, low resistance oil that is reccomended for hypoid diffs. But, being semi-synthetic, it's Exxy.

I use Mobil Lubrite LS90 Limited Slip oil in the diffs. Castrol LSX90 is similar. Great stuff and better as a diff oil than regular 90 gear oil, and I split a 20lt drum with a mate, so it costs about $3.50/lt. And doesn't smell as foul as Gear Oil.
