It either happened when I got dragged out of a hardened mud pit or when I went over thick tall reeds, but my transfer case solenoid wire that engages 4WD has snapped off.

Auto One is replacing the part, but I wonder if it could be a warranty claim? I mean it is a 4WD after all and this is definitely a defect as the wiring should not be so exposed as it it.

I will post up a trip report as to my trip to Wedge Island in WA later on - complete with pics:) I had to get home in 2WD, which was fun!

Anyone else experienced this problem with exposed wiring coming from the transfer case shearing off?

dont think warranty covers 4wds being driven off-road. You should replace front 4wd locking hubs with Vitara manual ones, then you wont have this issue again

I'd be suggesting to the SALES guy that he can do this the easy way or the hard way.

Easy way is, " no problem vermin we'll get that fixed for you".

Hard way is vermin with a sign parked out the front of the dealership every saturday morning saying "do you realise if you 4wd in your new 4wd this dealership will not honour your warranty".

I'm tipping they will chose the easy way.

I take it you never saw the Windsor Lemon Falcon? They eventually bought the car off him for a decent price.

bit of a difference between a peice of shit falcon and driving your car through a but load of reedy shit off road honestly it comes with the territory, i bet the wires are not more exposed than anything else, such as break lines and all that shit. it comes with the territory of taking your car to it's limits get over it .

It was covered in lemon stickers, each one telling of a fault, or crappy encounter with Windsor Ford or Ford Australia.

He would either park it out the front, or leave it in the busiest spots in Windsor...

you can also suggest that the ACCC should look at the advertising suzuki make regarding the jimny

Dont get me wrong - I dont think suzuki are any worse with this stuff than any other brand. But they certainly advertise the off road capability of their cars, to then say that actually using that ability voids the warranty is mind blowing.

To be honest I don't expect Suzuki to replace the part, but I do wonder how much more effort they would put into protecting the transfer case wiring if they did cover off road use.

So I rang my local dealership and the part that I need (4WD switch assembly) is on back order from Japan and not available until after Christmas!!

My brother rang another dealership and appareantly there is some wherehouse in Sydney that have the part and will be sent today hopefully...the dealer hinted that it is possible that the part is not actually available - whatever that means.

I have a strong feeling that this is not going to end well and there will be a massive waiting time.

What a joke that it's a 2009 vehicle and such a small part would take over 7 weeks to be delivered.

I have attached a diagram - it is part number 29 that I require. 30 is in stock for immediate delivery.

OH and I like how it shows the wiring as being shielded...this is not the case on my transfer case, so I wonder if this is a fault that I should pursue under warranty????

I will give this Sydney warehouse a go, but as a backup measure does anyone know a Suzuki wrecker anywhere in Australia that I can contact to source a second hand part?

pretty sure you can get transfer case bash plates.
maybe a good idea to add one when you replace the wire.

Yes I was just talking to my brother and I am definitely going to invest in some good armour for the vulnerable parts underneath my car.

I wonder what my chances of finding something aftermarket that can be modified to fit...it's a pretty basic looking part after all.

OK so Auto One have the new part in their store. The salesman has the broken part and the replacement part (I don't think it's genuine Suzuki) and he believes that they are identical.

What a crock of shit this would be if Auto One can get a part in that a Suzuki dealerhship cannot source until after Christmas!

I know people bag out Auto One, but the couple of stores that I deal with in my area are nothing short of professional and nothing is too hard for them - even when every other shop gives me the shaft and advises me to look on ebay.

I'll keep everyone posted on updates, but at the end of the day if I get my Zook working again then that is what counts.

I just wonder what is in store for the future if parts are hard to come by.

Ellebrook, Wanneroo, Clarkson are the stores I go to.

Turns out the part works and runs great again! We replaced the transfer case oil as it was black and milky after the car has only done 10,000kms since new Goes to show I need to replace it more often.

Car goes in tomorrow for a full service and I have asked them to check all oils.

Not impressed that Suzuki couldn't get the part, but Auto One could find a GENUINE part in just over a day.
