Okay after breaking 2 mounts in the matter of 2 4x4 trips. I figure it is time to upgrade my mounts so I stop breaking them. Are the aftermarket mounts weaker than the factory ones (as I broke the aftermarket mount on its first offroad trip).

Obviously I don't want to go about this the wrong way and just move the weak link to somewhere else like the case or something else. So any recommendation on a cradle?

I would not mind lifting the case as well (2" body lift).

are you just braking the flexible mounts? or actual steel arms?

What gearing etc do you have mate?

Breaking the flexible rubber mount on the passenger's side.

Transfer case has 6.5:1 gears in in it. Tyres are 31" trepadors and lockers F + R.

First time I broke it I wasn't suprised as I was bouncing it around a bit on a rock face. Second time (on Saturday) I was out at stockton on the beach. It went bang in 3rd gear low trying to get up a hill.

Is it possible the driver's side arm is bent slightly placing more strain on the passengers side mount? I have checked the mounts on the driver's side and the mounts appear to be unbroken and the arm looks straight but who knows...

With the 1.6 coming I only foresee my breakages... Oh and there is dreams for some wider diffs one day as well

Were they mounts off ebay? I broke a brand new one a couple of weeks back too, with the same setup as yours, minus front locker.
I am happy to replace a mount occasionally - Rather that than a busted case.

I've never had one of mine break, that includes the ones I've sold. I can do a standard height through to 40mm lift, enough to get the transfer above the bottom of the chassis.

They've been fitted to comp rigs now for a number of events and believe me we're not kind on the thing.

@just_cruzin: Was looking around for the lifted mounts but could not find any details on them. Do you have pictures + price?

Do your mounts just use the standard mounting points, would I need to reinforce the driver's side arm as well?

hey mate I have broken 6 in 4 months I have used suzuki, after market and ones I got off ebay. I had a look at a mates Sierra on the weekend I am going to make a mount using a few swaybar bushings and a long high rated steel bolt it will look a lot like the pic halfway down this thread.

@Just_Cruizin: With the lifted mounts is there any issues with the driveshaft length? I have 2" lift springs and drop shackles (they were on the car when I got it). Will I need to get a spacer?

Do rocktoy rings prevent cases from splitting apart or just make it less likely?

Otherwise it looks like a rocktoy ring + reinforcing the arm + Just_Cruzin's lifted mounts might be the way to go. Any ideas where I can get a rocktoy ring?

Do you really need one?
The toughest Zuk I wheel with, which did pretty damn well at Tough Tracks Modified class with 32"s, 6.5s, twin locked etc, doesn't have a ring fitted to the transfer he's been wheeling with that setup for a few years. He broke a tailshaft uni and CV at the same time, with the transfer stuck on a log, and no breakage, and no ring.

As for mounts, you can make a lifted set yourself for about $40.

I've seen 4 cases so far drive themselves to pieces. I have a couple of Roctoy rings, got them as a swap with Roctoy, would sell one of them to you with the mounts.

Drive shaft spacer, would be advised, especially if you go RUF, get them from Locktup4x4 in Perth, their price is less then the manufacturing cost for me.

Reubs, just cause Mike hasn't destroyed a Transfer doesn't mean it won't happen. And when it does don't expect their life time guarantee them.

mate i did the same thing. i grabed a stick of nylon, got it drilled and parted to suit what i wanted, grabed some bolts and just bolted them straight in.

In your case you have to consider things like the extra stress the the F+R lockers will cause and the extra torque through the 6.5's. Doing what i have done will just put the weak point at a much more expensive area, the mounts to the actual transfer case.

i would personally go for the rocktoy ring + new mounts which just cruisin has. it would be the best in the long run.

From what I have heard, they are the same concept to others being sold commercially at certain Zuk shops.

I sourced rubber that I guessed had roughly same density as the OEM mounts. My mounts can both compress and expand the same amount as the OEM ones. I only used a solid block to pack the 50mm between my mounts for the 2 1/4" lift. I guess you'd call that fully insulated.

Nice looking kit Greg. Looks like mine, except I have 12mm of rubber either side of chassis and case mount (4 total per mount) and a 50mm solid block between the inner rubber blocks and my washers are round (50mm one for the bottom, and I think a 35mm one for the top). Same concept and only $40 from various places. I'm not gonna see my car for a few days - so I will post photos when I can get to it.

Mine are engineering to give the same amount of cushioning as the original mounts even when lifted. Do you know what shore your rubber is? I have like a top hat section that goes through the chassis mounts and the arms and a crush sleeve on the inside of the mounts, this ensures the bolt and crush sleeve do not come in contact with the chassis or the arms, thus fully insulated. If you simply have a bolt go through the original holes you are not fully insulated.

just cruizin do your 40mm mounts work on a non body lifted zook, and also can they be used with a mighty kong cradle or roctoy ring just trying to figure out how to set up my transfer mounts with 6.5's aswel.
