Hi,

I have a 1986 Sierra 1.3JX and would like to know what size the standard fuel tank is please?

My trip and gauge doesn't work at the moment either, what's a ball-park figure per tank on normal road driving?

Oh, what is a locked rear and what's the benefit?

i think they're 40L standard.

and most people say they get 100KM per 10L, but... i think most people would get about 300KM on a tank.

Diff locks are a traction aid, to increase traction when offroad. You can lock the front or rear or both.

Saying that, I cannot let it run down without the gauge or the trip!

Locked rear.. so is the front locked when you just turn the hubs?

i'm not a 100% on the 40L thing

Engaging the front hubs connects the hub to the axle, so it provides drive, the same as the rear.

Diff locks are a seperate thing though.

here's a pic of the shackles for everyone...



the site says they raise the vehicle 2inches, which means they are 4inches longer than standard ones? (considering the diff is half way along the spring)

I think that's be crazy! The normal extended shackle mod is 2inches longer than standard which raises the vehicle 1 inch. This also has an effect on the vehicles onroad handling, as there is more sideways movement in the diff position. This can contribute to steering wobbles.

that's nuts. you probably wouldn't need to change shocks if you don't leave the road. The problem is, if you raise the vehicle, the shocks wont be long enough when they top out, ... raise the vehicle two inches? increase the shock lenght to match!!

I took my Sierra on the beach for the first time today (my first time that is), from Noosa barge but the sand was too heavy and it quickly got to a high temp reading so I pulled over, waited and went back over the barge to Noosa!

I decided to drive round, the long way... I came back from Rianbow Beach via Mudlo Rocks and the drive was brilliant!

Just thought i'd share that with everyone!

There were a few Sierra's, but they all were modded in some way, all had bigger tyres though... is that essential?

Higher means more unstable unless you change the tyres too?

heheh... we all do some bodgy mods to our cars to save money i guess. There's the nice preferred way which involves a decent budget, or the cheap arse backyard way, when we want it all but don't want to pay any money out.

I think the best lift to do is a 2inch spring lift kit. The cheap lift is a body lift and/or shackle lift.

It's all based around trying to get bigger tyres under the car, which i think 90% of people do for looks, and i'm guilty of that too, ... hey it's cool to have big tyres!

ya got Microsft Paint? standard with windows. You can open the pics in there and hit "stretch and skew" and reduce them a bit , like 80%, and save em, and then upload em
