I'm looking at a sierra with a 1.6L, its not registered and the 1.6L hasn't been mod plated, I was wondering if it was possible to re-register the vehicle with the 1.6L and not have to worry about engineering the engine,

I'm no expert on RWC but my mate has just bought a sierra and its got the 1.6L with no mod plate, the car was un registered when the engine was put in and is now registered with the vin number and engine number from the 1.6L on the road worthy and registration certificate.

so my question is, is it possible to re-register a vehicle with the new donk and no mod-plate??

provided the car is actually road worthy and the engine is compliant with rwc requirements

welll if you can get a good rwc where they will dodgey it up it can be done brought mine with a roady and 1.6not regoed and went straight through but you need a good mechanic

well my mates was done through some mob in Brisbane somewhere and they took care of the whole conversion and registration, i assumed cause the registration certificate had the same vin and engine number that you didnt need a mod plate, aren't they just for modifications so anything thats on the car that has been modified of is different to original or what registraion says?

most mechanics wouldn't know its the wrong engine and would jsut write the number in the box, most wouldnt even know they didnt have a 1.6

but it wont make it legal and you can still get defected for it

didn't mean to name establishments becuase i thought this was perfectly do-able and legal, i was just wondering how to go about it is all, I'll edit my post then just to be sure

Just get a mod plate it's not that expensive and it will be legal too

You can, but as royce said, just because DOT don't recognize the fact that it is a 1.6 when thay press enter on there keyboard when you rego it, don't make it legal.... Plate it, if you have a prang, even if it's not your fault & the insurance company see's g16 with no plate, it's your fault cause your car shouldn't of been on the road, it's happened to me.
The car is modified & not plated, there for not legal, your in the wrong for driving a modified car & in there eye's the accident would not of happened if you were not driving said car.

i need to know probably the same thing S13RR4 where on the sunshine coast can we get this done and also how much we are looking for it. also S13RR4 i was told of a mobile guy in caboolture who can do em for $100

call the transport department in your area and ask about an engine conversion, they should be able to put you in touch with an engineer.
or you could search in the yellow pages for a mechanical engineer.

for the road worthy cert any mechanic should be able to do it for you.

hey guys im the mate who si3rr4 was talking about who just bought a sierra with the 1.6l on the rego but no plate. took your advice and for all the guys on the sunnycoast i found a place in kunda park, gona do my plate for $132. I figure it's better then gettin defected and told by my insurance company im not covered....

yeah so went out did the right thing and got a mod plate done today for my 1.6l. rung the insurance company to inform and they basically said ohh well unlucky cuz its modded we cant insure u and i basically said well F U (dial tone). part form that the guys that did it were easy to deal with and it was done in like 20mins. steknig its straight dont worry

i know its ridicoulsy clean for a sierra but it wont be a show car for too much longer buddy as soon as im finished uni for the year (tomorrow) it'll be gettin used for its real purpose, already got some trips planned. unlucky bout the incident out the front of urs today mate hope all goes well with your insurance...

Been there before. RACQ would not insure my 1.6L Sierra. Found the cheapest insurer to be NRMA, and they don't care too much about mods as long as they are legal. Oh - and sometimes comprehensive insurance is cheaper than 3rd party, so get a quote for it! I have comprehensive insurance on both my coilies.

P.S. AAMI SUX!!!!!!!!! And if you have a problem with them, because they are the "Aust. Assoc. of Motor Insurers", the only place you can whinge to is the Independent Ombudsman.
