I've already posted this in my build thread but thought somebody may find this interesting so thought I'd post it here too. I needed a way to move my air intake from just behind the RHS headlight but still wanted cool air the rest of the time.

First version was snorkel only. My plan was to attach it before entering water.

Image

version 2 is a switchable version between Cold Air Intake and Snorkel

Looks flash mate... And has a purpose... Good stuff.
I see now why Bunnings make record profits with all those bends/fittings.

LOL

I'll make that an update

I've thought about it some more since you first made that comment. The intake is directly behind my mesh grill so I think it's safe from debris and unless I park uphill any water that fills the cold air intake will run straight out.

All that said I am still going to make a cap.

Slight side question, did the K&N Filter make much of a difference to performance ?

I felt that there was a slight improvement but it's a hot topic of debate. Here's a link to the thread about filters

It looks heaps better black. Gives it a stealthy look. Just like the rest of your Jimny unassuming but more than capable.

So Paul, did you come up with some kind of device to 'funnel' more air in?

Perhaps even a FUNNEL?
:hey:

Hi All,

I went to Bunnings and accidentally noticed they had some flexible/bendable aluminum ducting, ranging in sizes from 75mm to 300mm, used on ovens and exhaust fans...

But i am thinking it would be perfect to redirect the air intake, to get cooler air into the engine... i shall be looking into this a bit more, as i want to get better and cooler air flow into my carby.....

I would think it would also help those that want to make a snorkel !

I actually was looking for stuff like that the other day in Bunnings and didn't find it... might have to have another look!

Not sure if your aware or not, but you can also buy Bendable/flexable PVC pipe as well. you can get it at bunnings or from a plumbing suppliers, would be good for under bonet stuff, like in the Jimny.

Hey Zukenutter,
You notice any temp difference, or anything, since you have the cold air intake directed square to the front? The standard just facing down at the engine seems a bit daft to me.

why not drill a hole at the lowest point or even just before the switch to drain any water????

No real performance changes, I already had a slight overheating problem but certainly no negative aspect to the mod and the snorkel has worked brilliantly a couple of times now. Standard intake is just a bit ridiculous.

The water drains out straight away anyway as it has to go uphill as it enters anyway.

went to bunnings just before, theyt have 20meter rolls of 50mm ag pipe for $20. i was thinking about using this as it would be fairly easy to install. it would only be temp until i got a proper snorkle. can take it out as well.

what dose everybody think? would it be ok?

I think you will find that ag pipe is full of holes. ie drainage pipe.

Clark Rubber Sells, Wet Vacuum Hose.. Which you could use as a permanent,,, Doesn't colapse.. full range of sizes, and you can get upto about 90' bend in it... Would look terrible as an external Snorkel. But good for the plumbing.

ha ha Zukenutter you wouldnt be the fella thats selling these on Ebay?

Saw something like that marketed as a 'cold air intake' suited for jimny and sold as a professionally made OEM part lol... and guaranteed performance benefits... I know the guy at SS inductions up at Yatala who makes em for Commondores and Falcoons and their quiet specialised but PVC was a bit of a stretch lol..

Well anyway i guess it'll work untill water gets in there some how???

Mite give it a go and make one, the little rubber suzuki knob doofer is a bit of a 'half ditched effort of a savedgly clubed seal trying to get back to the water dance' sub engineered effort by Suzuki...

Cheers.
