Im looking at a lwb vit this week 1.6 mpfi manual are there any things i need to look for in particular

edit; and its stock

for body rust,
open rear door and look at the body seam above your head they seem to gather rust there faster than any other place...

Make sure it has P/steer so you can fit it to my car

thanks mate i know the main things when buying cars just dont no the little niggly things about vitaras that could be or are a problem

Unless you already had one that you were really attached to I don't think it would be worth bothering. There are plenty of autos around, just buy one of them straight up.

Some of the things that I know of (which u may know of already) are:

> Check behind the Front inner Guard ( a lot of crap gets caught there)
> 1.6ltr motors are prone for cracks in block (on drivers side usually near starter motor)
> Under Headlights is another spot where crap can get caught & start rusting
> I've been told that check chassis 1/2 along near x-support for rust but I've never seen any cars with this
> As has been previously mention at the rear door behind the rear door rubber (top & bottom) for rust.

I'm not to worried about it being manual it's cheap and in pretty good nic I'm looking at building a bit of a tourer/ daily driver that I can still have bit of fun in. And to be a bit more comfortable I'll more than likely get rid of my swb as we still have the lwb.

How much capabilty is lost with a vit compared to a Sierra

Well... That depends on how well u can get the Rear Suspension to Flex......
The front will always be the limiting factor, but when u get the rear end to flex, u will be pretty surprised as to how far they can go.... With the right Coils/Shocks in the Rear end + a suitable A-Arm spacer, then u will be able to go most places.... One other limiting factor is ground clearance....

Depending on $$, u could look at Reduction Gears + Front Air-Locker (or Auto Locker if u r came) as with all Vits, P/Steering is standard (unlike Sierras)
