I know its not a zook but its my tow car and I am having trouble with the carby, its a 91 3ltr patrol, the secondarys arnt working, the vacuum diafram is good and doesnt leak ,butterfly not seased, checked everything what i found is not much vacuum through the cardy where the diafram bolts up on the side of the carby, there is a small O ring between the canaster and the carby i have replaced.
Any idears.....

secondary wont open unless there is vacuum on the primary, you wont get that outside of a hill or a dyno!!

pull the line to the diaphram and go for a drive and be amazed at the slow then :)

they dont have much grunt really, maybe find some VL injection?

As royce said........... vl injection......better yet........ vl turbo inj and manifold/turbo. One of my old work collegues has one of these 3.0 GQ patrols. He is a qualied auto gas fitter. The first thing he did was swap over all the bits to more or less make it a RB30DET set up, then fitted direct gas injection. It was an animal after that. Complete transformation.

As for your question though... sorry. Cant help. Just wanted to add to Royces comment. I'm sure someone will sort you out. Prob stating the obvious but I assume you've also posted on a nissan forum?

I have thought of injection but cannot do it on P plates
due to the setup on the carby there is no external vacuum line it is done internal, while driving it you can tell thay are not opening it runs out of steam about 3500 rpm's
I have taken off the canaster and checked the internal line to the primary and it not blocked but cannot feel any vacume under high reeving.
I might have to take it to Carbtec in Kipparing/ Redcliffe and let them fix it.

how are you checking it? on a dyno?

you WONT get enough airspeed through the secondaries even at 9000rpm free revving it, there is no load

My first 4by was one of these 3 litre patrols. It ran great on lpg but was shit on petrol. It turned out to be the electric pump in the tank. Do a fuel pressure test and make sure that's ok first, and it might be worth checking the float level in the carby. If that don't fix it and you're still convinced it's the carby, maybe a rebuild is in order. As was already mentioned these cars were'nt the most powerful, but like the Suzuki's they love to rev. They should rev happily to around 6000 rpm all day long

it is starving for fuel driving on the highway and wont rev past 3500rpm because of the secondarys not operating

secondaries let air in not fuel, would run rich on a single barrel due to the massive vacuum created by all the air trying to get through

once the air is flowing the vacuum created by the venturi forces the fuel in

if it was 'starving' for fuel it would lean out and missfire bigtime

if the vacuum line is integral yet you can still test it one would think a simple squirt of carby cleaner and a pipe cleaner would sort out anything lodged in there

the trick to fixing cars is to look st the symptoms, test anything htat can effect it, measure its performance to the listed standard then repair wahts out of spec, not decide its starving and go from there

I bet ignition or lack of anything resembling a real tune anytime in the last few years
