hey, just wondering does keeping the front hubs locked and driving around in 2wd, does that wreck your wheel bairings at all

ok thanks, i always drive around with the hubs locked, so it saves me times, from getting out of the car to lock them
my car uses 6.7L to 100km
so its pretty good on fuel

It does create more wear and tear in the long run which costs money seems pretty lazy no offence but it takes less than a minute to unlock the hubs.

i havnt been doing it for long maby couple of weeks
its usualy my sis who gets in it ans goes down the paddock and locks the hubs and doesnt unlock them wen she finishes

ill start unlocking them, because i dont want to warn them out and have to get new ones

If you are just cruising around a paddock and going in and out of 4wd it would be ok, but if you were planning on going up the highway or a long drive on bitumen then it would be better to unlock them

yea well like i said my sis gets in it and lockes them then mum gets in it and takes it into town, but she only done it a couple of times driving into town with them locked

When they are locked, the whole from drivetrain (axles, diffs, driveshift & the front output shaft on the transfer case) are spinning. Not a major drama, but it will cause extra wear and tear to all these components...

Just say you locked your hubs and accidentally forgot about it. Then say because you don't go wheelin that often you haven't bothered to check your front diff oil level, and it's a bit low. So then you're driving around for a few months completely oblivious to the fact you have your hubs locked in. You're using a bit more fuel than usual but you probably aren't noticing that really. Then one morning you're driving to work at 3:50, and just as you pull off the motorway and start slowing down the bearings in the diff centre carrier finally sieze and your front tyres lock and you come to a screeching halt sideways in the middle of the road. Would that be enough reason to convince you not to run your zook on the road with the hubs locked in?

Coz it farkin well was enough for me!

Mine haven't been unlocked since April 2004, cant be bothered finding them in the cupboard and refitting them. I love my drive flanges...

Agreed. 6.7L/100km in a Sierra is impossible, unless its downhill all the way.... Old engine + Aerodynamics of a house brick. No way will it get 6.7.

Yea many people bugger up the calculation.

If you use 36 litres to travel 240k, that means you divide 36 by 240 to get 0.15 or 15 litres per hundred K.

Many people divide 240 by 36 and get 6.66 kilometers per litre, which they confuse and think its 6.66 litres per hundred

Damo........I don't drive it on the rd with hubs locked only around the paddock some times. Longest it's been on the rd with hubs locked would be like 10 mins tops

Well I just been told that wen I bought it
I usually use the zook for a week on my property on empty and I never run out

oh and I don't know what it does but I have a 1.3L with a 1.6 vitara head on it
