G'day,

Just got my mechanic to do the head gasket [vrs kit, new rings etc] (G16 carby 8v -- 190,000 kms) because a fair bit of radiator fluid was leaking into the oil, however after 1000km about 1 litre of radiator fluid per 500km is still ending up in the sump?

I've got no idea what it is? The I had the head crack tested, no cracks... any ideas? Perhaps a water jacket?

Just trying to work this stuff out before I take it back

Water jacket or I think someone (maybe royce) said they can crack in between the block and cyclinder sleeve. Sorry, but it is a big fix, well not really fix as such, new block. I assume they checked the head for flatness and straightness on the face of the head??

I just went back and looked at my old thread about my issue..it was actually built4thrashing that told me..scary now he has posted on here after me now

could also be a welsh plug in the head.

They may have not taken the motor out, so leveling/decking it may have not been an option...

It would be worth asking the mechanic if they measured the block. I have seen the gap between 2 & 3 get distorted from heat and the owner kept blaming the head without checking the block. Obviously a mechanic should know better, and this bloke probably does, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Crossing my fingers it's a welsh plug.

If it's a cracked block/head, what would be the cheapest fix? New block? How much do they set you back...?

If it's that far gone mate just find a 2nd hand complete engine from somewhere, even a shorty for that matter, you have everything else

Okay... turns out it was just moister left in the sump (the oil was drained, and the oil filter changed) but there must have been a pool of water that sat there. And the reason why I was losing fluid was because a faulty radiator cap.

Seems to be a good theory, the amount of milky substance is nothing like it was before. I'll just keep cleaning it off until I can dump the oil again.

damn i have a g16b sitting it just got a blown head gasket but other than that it runs fine i just couldn't bin stuffed spending ova a grand to get the head when the whole motor has done 243000 so i got a low klm motor +i needed a new compressor for the air con.
