Hi,

I pulled apart and cleaned whole starter motor. It worked for two days and stopped. all electric connection are new. starter motor spins but is not cranking the engine. I think, magnetic switch is not working and engaging the overrunning clutch or pinnion drive lever is too worn. after assembling starter motor I tested starter motor, did pull in, hold in and pinion return test. everything was ok. but it is not a test under load. do you have any ideas what it can be? if overrunning clutch was busted it probably woudnt disengage or can it be that it's slipping? I have 1.6 carby engine and vitara gearbox, so starter motor is probobaly from vitara (different flywheel) and it is not suzuki but mitshubshi one (don't know why). do you know if I can get and where jst magnetic switch and maybe jst in case that plastic lever. How much could it be, worth buing that or new starter motor? thanks

what condition were the brushes in?

brushes where bit worn but within specification, according to service manual I've done everything what was there exept one of the tests ( I don't have such big amper meter to run that test).

put it in vise, crank it up and jam a piece of soft wood in teeth, sounds like u need a new drive.

Suzuki use Bitsashitty electrics so your starter is most likely original...

Starters, alternators, ECM's etc in Zooks are all made by Bitsashitty.
As mentioned above, try the pine trick to load test.

thx for pine tip I'll check it. If ti will fail do you know if it is possible to buy just parts for starter motor or should I spend money on new one?

parts are easy to come by, visit ur local sparky. don't buy a new one. you can also give it some hits with the hammer, it should only spin on way.
