Gday everyone.
My sons 1990 JX Vitara is having real dramas going into gear everytime we go for a wheel. It is so hard for it to go into gear she grinds and carries on.
So today we went to Blacksmiths Beach for some fun and within minutes of it being in high and low the bloody thing has this drama which is a pain in the ass especially being on the softest sand i've ever driven on.
He said it normally takes a few days for it to come back to normal.

So i'm hoping you guy's can shed some light on this annoying problem.

Adjust the clutch as when it is on road it is fine but off road it is working harder and getting hoter and harder to select gears.

Nope only while and after wheeling.

Only about a month ago before the car got back on the road.

Sorry to hi jack, but 4H to 2H, very tight and have to push it in and yeah im no mechanic but thats not right lol

Different Tyre Pressure between Front & Rear "can" be one of the causes for this....

Nah not yet i'm waiting for me boy to get back from Sydney(via train hehehe) and when he gets home I'll tell him the idea we all have.
But him being 17, he won't believe me and only(still) thinks the worst.

Sounds like your clutch is getting hot with the extra load of spinning 4 wheels, instead of 2. It could be a sign your clutch is on the way out... does it slip?

Nope it don't slip a single bit not even smelly.

i use to have a similiar problem in my vitara when i first got it. the clutch was at the floor and it would grind changing grears in the transfer case and first would grind or be super hard to engage while 4wding. i adjusted the clutch and all was good.
