Are they the same thing, or different?

Sidekick is the American Version.

Like Samurai for Sierra's.

And many other names!

Escudo is the Japanese Domestic Market variation. Both Vitara and Escudo are available in NZ

And if you put the American Sidekick LHD steering wheel on the Vitara's, They steer in the opposite direction.
