[Rockhopper]

Ok. So my old Sierra has just ticked over 150000km's and the carby decided to shit itself, so I decided it was time for a rebuild. I stripped it down and soaked all the parts in cleaning solution for the last 24 hours and when I pulled all the bits out, they looked good as new....., except for the primary venturi which loooks like it fell into a volcano and melted . So anyway, it looks like I'm up for a new carby, and am currently tossing up wether I should get another Sierra Aisin carby and just pinch the venturis out of it to rebuild mine, or fit on a Vitara Mikuni carby. Now to fit on a Vitara carby, I know I'm going to need the carby itself, and I'm going to need an air cleaner assembly, but what else would I need to fit one to a Sierra?? Would I be better off buying the whole inlet manifold, or fitting it on the Sierra manifold??

Hey mate once again call me... I have a carby that is only good for spair parts. Its missing all the springs on the outside and one screw. You can have it for a 4 pack of woodys....

Ok. Update. I ended up at a local wreckers this morning and I ripped a carby of an old box shaped Swift which loooked similar to the Sierra one. Whilst there, I found an early 1.6 twin cam Corrolla with carby still intact, so the jet's found their way out of the carby and into my toolbox.When I got the Swift carby home, I stripped it down and found the venturi's were suitable to swap with my rooted ones. I also pulled its jets out and compared them to the ones in my original carb and the Corrolla ones. Suprisingly, the orifices in the Swifts jets looked bigger than the 1.6 Rolla jets. And both sets of jets looked bigger than my original jets. Anyway, after careful consideration I put the Corrolla jets into my carby, and bolted it all together. Started it up and had to screw the mixture screw all the way in, which tells me it's probably running a bit rich, but theres no smoke, and it idles beautiful. Took it for a run down the freeway and I noticed a decent improvement in low and mid range revs, and also a bit better in high revs, but probably a little restricted by the thickshake straw Suzuki call an exhaust. Fuel economy so far is 12litres per 100 km's which is a bit shit, but I'lll leave it as is for now and see how it goes. If I get the shits with it I'll pull the jets back out and replace them with the Swift ones. Overall though I'm pretty happy with the way it drivings now.

Dave, I'll still take that other carby off your hands sometime, as there are a couple of springs and bushes that I'd still like to replace on mine.
