i found a holden jackaroo parked next to my zook this afternoon and measured the lower arms, they are 870 - 875mm. 170mm bigger then anything else
i did not get to have a look at the upper arms

Telling people to make their own arms is a terrible idea. Most people won't have the knowledge and know-how to manufacture their own trailing arms. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people 'having a go', but things like trailing arms and panhards should be left to the joes of the world, or other suitably qualified persons.

My advise... If you cannot find an OEM trailing arm that's suits your needs, either make a compromise and use shorter arms along with their inherent floors, or get some professionally made.

sorry i missed this thread for ages.

yes your spot on there, joe would be able to make his own because he can weld and fab like the best. But i was thinking along the lines of fabbing it all up then taking it to a fab shop and getting them to finish off the welds. This will cost alot less then buying already made arms, and if it's not seeing the road as a DD then it needs no inspection. im not saying that it's a dodgy build or truck just saying it has to bow to a different set of standards. With weld testing im fairly sure that an xray and looking up the strengths of the steel in use would be suffice?

also i work in a fab shop so i forget and take for granted that i have access to all the tools, know how and more qualified welders you could poke a stick at.

Question time... I'm not far from getting the brackets welded for the control arm bushes... but im not sure if i should make the brackets so they are a tight/snug fit with each side of the bush.. or if i should leave 2mm for eg for extra play, so when the bushes are working to their max, they wont crash on themselves and bugga up? Im guessing they should be kept nice and snug, cause if you allow movement there is the oppurtinity for them to become slogged out... but thought i best double check with everyone elses opinions!

What are the arms off? Use the specs of the brackets used on the donor vehicle. Different bushes are designed to work with different tollerances.

off a GQ.. already doubled check with a GQ, and they dont leave any room.. so thats what i'll also do.. thanks for the reply
