Our 2006 Jimny VVT comes out of Warranty in January so I thought that I'd start servicing it myself.

Changed the Oil Filter with a RYCO Z418
Used Penrite Oil as I've had great results in the past

Thought I'd check the Air Filter even though the Jimny only recently had a 40,000km service. When I removed the filter I was shocked as it looks like it's still the original filter. I've never seen one that was so dirty especially considering all off-road duties are done in my 2001 Jimny. The 2006 has never even seen an unsealed road.

Anyway I've been on the hunt for a non-genuine filter with no luck. RYCO don't have a listing, and I don't want to use a K&N or UNI in this car. I need to have one in my hands by end of Monday so will buy genuine if I have to.

Anyone got any experience here?

Is price the only reason you dont want to buy genuine? Generally speaking, genuine filters are the best filters you can get.

X2, the Suzuki air filter change is at 45k, unless it's dirty & actually checked before that.

I got a kit off ebay for mine, was $40 and had plugs, oil and air filters. seemend ok considering I couldnt get a ryco

I'm sure they've billed us for one at some point, couldn't be bothered going hunting for the receipt though. It's so dirty that I would expect them to have at least changed it at the last service. It also looked like the Oil Filter had not been touched either but maybe "by the book" it was not due either. I like to overdo it with filter and oil changes so maybe I'm just expecting too much.

The RYCO Z418 oil filter has a larger diameter than genuine but still fits the machined surface.

If I had more time I may have considered the ebay kit but need it tomorrow. The plugs in that kit are not the best choice for M13A as the manual specifies the iridium plugs.

Anyone else got feedback on spark plug choice? Steknig??

I've never put iridium's in, just sdt ngk as that's what our listing has, 45k is spark plug change to.
If you just had a intermediate service by the book, thay would of changed you oil & sump plug washer, topped up the rest of the fluid's & shined your tyre's.

I'd go Iridium if it was me, not cheap tho.

As for the air filter, look like genuine is the only way for now.

Ok, so my mistake. Iridium plugs are just the top of the list of plug choices, and essential in cold climate (not Brisbane )

I'm running Iridium in the 2001

Iridium @ 60,000km
Standard @ 45,000km

The last SET of Iridiums cost me about $60 - $80 (can't remember exactly)

Do you have a cat? Thay like to sleep under bonnet's for the warmth, then leave hair every where, but thay do keep the rat's out & rat's eat your wiring harness & fuel hose.


That look's blocked, should of been changed age's ago, that's just poor servicing.

We have a rigdeback, they have realy short hair and no cat. I don't know where those have come from. I thought it looked excessively dirty.

The filter actually looks cleaner than it is in these pics.

All that black shit is tyre dust & road grime, it will still breath Ok, but would be better off replaced.

Someone here should know, but the filter is propably compatible with another vehicle. The filter i pulled out of the Baleno looks like that, dunno if it would be the same size.

Nope, look the same but don't fit..

I don't see the problem. I'd put that back in. It's 100% not "blocked" and will be filtering the air better now than when it was new.

Got hold of a genuine air filter today. $57. All shiny and very white

i just ordered our 07 jimny air filter off ebay, Off the suzuki specialist dude in nsw, had to get 4 king pin bearings did me up a lil deal, but $21 for air filter though.

also what weight oil do you use on your vvt model we use the penrite too seem like good stuff :D

Why the fascination with Iridium plugs? Just because they last longer? Everyone on here thinks the std NGKs are fine and I assume on your Jimny they are easy to get access to so changing std ones a little more frequently isn't an issue.

I hate changing them plus why not have the best for only 33% more, and they last that much longer anyway, seems like a no-brainer to me.

Hey zukenutter , do u mind if I ask what penrite oil you use? " specs" just want to see what other people are using in the m13a vvt model with ks on the clock

Can't remember, would have been a thicker variety for our warm climate, I'm usually not overly worried so long as it's Penrite.
