Ok so whats the easiest way to get my diff back into the car I havnt taken the cv's out should I? I cant get the drivers side to slide in properly is there any trick to it?

Yes take cv's out, or you will be fighting with them the whole time, the driver's has a c/clip, so it may need a bit of a tap with a hammer.

TAP! You not trying to put it through the diff, just into it, make sure the splines are lined up by turning the shaft, you should be able to feel the diff turn.

The RH cv can be a right bitch to get in!!! I usually unbolt the ball joint from the calmini control arm & unbolt the knuckle from the strut for ease of reisntallation.

(you won't be able to unbolt the ball joint)

He has a point tho, the 2 bolt's on the strut will have to be removed so the hub move's far enough to install Cv.

how did you pull it out? pry bar, angle grinder & a hammer...

it's a serious juggling act with the RH front, have you got access to a ball joint splitter?

do you have the strut unbolted? roll the knuckle forward & outward from the chassis rail... you might need someone to stand on the wishbone to get some extra travel & maybe remove the swaybar if it's still there!

if not add an extra dollar to stekkys highest bid & i'll take it!

If you are struggling stand the diff vertically and use some grease on the clip to keep it in position then push the CV down in to it. Then just install the diff with CV attached. I have swapped front diffs this way as it saved draining the oil.

I just had a thought, & yes it hurt.
Are you fitting the 5.12's? Have you swapped ring & pinion's over onto your old hemisphere?

Thay have different spine's you know.

sounds easy cj but, i can't picture what you are talking about... are you just compressing the RHS CV in the cups?

good point steknig... was it a centre from a carby or import EFI front cut? as those farkers are 22 spline!!!

Start with the diff out of the Vit. Stand it vertically on the passengers side flange. Take the drivers side CV/axle and smear grease around the clip on the spline to keep it central. If the clip moves across to one side it can make it difficult to push in. Insert the CV. Now take the whole assembly and fit it by sliding the outer part of the axle into the spindle then push the diff into position and bolt it up.

thanks cj, that makes sense... but i think he has bigger problems!

1.6 vits from the update dash onwards (same dash as 2.0 litre V6) have 26 spline fronts. before that 22.

I just saw his rig. He's going to have to pull the centre and swap the sidegears for some 26 spline ones and also swap the passenger side inner axle shaft.

now i know this sounds dodgy... but you could make up a hybrid RHS 22spline inner CV & run the V6 outer CV & shaft, it's been done before...

that was the plan but need the car for over xmas and wasnt able to get the swap done plus the place i got the diff from after i asked for the bracket didnt send me a bracket

There are a couple of slight variations in the CV's and some can't be mixed. Check and see if they are the same colour first and you "might" have a chance but no guarantees.
