Water was knee deep and consistent with hard bottom. Air intake is behind the right headlight, facing downwards (see pic)...yes, probably too far on my first trip, BUT...it was a life or death situation! There was a massive Rhino chasing me! SO, I really had no choice (and that's the story I'm sticking to!)

P.S: How do you guys clean your eninge bays? Light soap then light h/p spray...let dry in open?

- ARB replacement bumper; colour-coded,
- Maxxis MT753: 215/75R15,
- Rock Sliders with H/L jack points...

And then some MUD!

Hopefully all complete within the next 2 weeks or so...African time you know

I use KENCO "Shift it" and 10-15 minutes later give it a high pressure blast. Removes oil/grease/dirt and even the dirt residue that a HP blast won't get off.
I always blast with engine running so if it dies at least I know what did it, not that it's a huge problem with EFI cars but still.

I was very wary of giving it a blast with HP - so many wires and other fiddly bits

Will give it a go next time...ended up cleaning it with a damp cloth.

Howzit,
Tbh I miss my 90, But then I get back onto tar and forget all about it.

The 90 was awesome off-road & very average to poor on road - but the novelty didn't ever wear off over the 3 years I owned it...just got irritating when I needed a bit of pace on tar. I'm a very patient person now.

The Jimny is fantastic on tar compared, and my time betw destinations is quicker with no idling / caring for a turbo's needs. J is much more comfy and quieter. It still does the job offroad; from what I've seen so far.

Std Jimny doesn't come close to the 90 on grade 4+ trails...But then again, I didn't buy it to compete. I bought it to firstly do my job (construction sites), and secondly some light offroad work - which will become a bit more fun once these mods have been done...

Hope you guys don't mind a piccy...

All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase; and still can't find anything I would rather have replaced the 90 with (for my purposes).

Ok, so I've just seen and read most of this topic.

Have purchased a little red blob in August last year and had it in my posession little more than 6 weeks total. All due to a tip over the day after I bought it, (taking 6 weeks to repair) and then some serious mod work (taking 10 weeks to complete).

I was getting to the point of "Anyone wanna buy a Jimny?" But alas, I got it back last Thursday and immediately treated it with complete disrespect on Sunday up at Glasshouse (there are pics to prove it )

On Sunday after I pounded back and fourth through a mudd puddle till I got through on the fourth attempt, as I exited I was told "You're a psycho". To that all I can say is "You're ignorant"

I bought it for a purpose and I am sure as hell am gonna have fun finding out what that purpose is!

Back to the topic: I broke the transfer case bracket in short time, so now I have indestructable steel brackets and 30mm raised nolethane mounts, and a solid full size bash plate under - chasis to chasis.

I have rock sliders, 6 point roll cage and brush bars all mdae from 44mm CDS (high tensile extruded steel). I have an ARB winch bar, (winch to come later). I have a custom 1.6mm folded rear bar with built in tow bar and recovery points. Sunday certainly proved that this is all useful.

I was expecting all this weight to reduce the performance of the vehicle with its tiny 1.3L, but the extractors, free flow exhaust and UNIFILTER has overcome this easily.

I have also had Chrome Molly radius arms made with built in camber correction and added length to allow for bigger wheels down tha track. I actually bent one of the originals early on to - possibly whilst being pulled back on to 4 wheels.

As I drive it around, someone in every second car is having a look. It really is unique with the cage and alloy checker on the side panels.

Well, my 'Sully' went in for ARB replacement bumper and OME susp this morning...bumper is aparently on and looking good (kept it black, c/coding might come later).

BUT "we have a small problem with the springs...the factory sent us the wrong ones, so we've fitted the shocks...fit springs tomorrow...so sorry, unacceptable...etc, etc."

Ho hum. No use arguing.

Will start a new thread in appropriate section for pics etc when done.

Hi there Joseph,

Waiting for Maxxis MT753 (215/75R15) to arrive...they're in the country, but the guy who I deal with is away, so have to wait for him to get back before they can send off to me.

Sliders should be ready by end of the week.

Getting rear coils fitted tomorrow...front has been raised by 30mm - 10mm less than OME states, but that's cause there's a 25kg bar on the front. Rear will go up 40mm - tomorrow (shocks are in already).

So, any thoughts on whether I should colour-code the bumper or keep it black?

The KM2's were great offroad, better than BFG AT's on road, and increased my fc by 10% .
They were my first MT; so can't really compare to other MT's. I would buy them again if I could.

The only MT in South Africa is the Maxxis that I'm getting...only other option in 215/75 is the BFG AT.

The Hankook guy didn't even get back to me...was all keen - just like the other guys. "Yes, I'm sure we can help you...let me phone to confirm..Will defo call you back in 10mins..." - Nothing - and that's the same co that I've been with for the last few years, so they know me.

ARB colour coded bumpers do look pretty good. Depends if you are going to get it scratched or not. Personally I'd spend the money on other stuff that will make it perform better. But that's just my opinion.

You've already done the important stuff, some people will tell you diff locks and winches but that comes down to what sort of off roading you plan on doing. I always head out with at least one other vehicle so there's always someone to pull me out.

- A dual battery set-up would be a good idea just in case, being that you'll probably be in some remote areas.

- Diff breathers if you don't already have them are a must if you plan on crossing any water.

Thought so . Diff breathers coming shortly...DBS not really needed just yet - will go that route if I plan on doing extended trips or getting a winch.
Most of our trails are local 'home after a braai at lunchtime' kinda stuff...will guage how neccessary DL's are...I'm thinking to use them properly I'll just be asking for trouble & getting deeper into it.
Winch is way too heavy to cart around all day with usage being maybe 2 or 3 times a month - if i try hard enough.
