thats 31.6 X 10.5
heaps wide enough
there are a lot of guys that belive for mud and clay the narrower the better but much narrower than 9" is hard to find.
Im thinking of swapping my 34x 10.5 15's to a 34x 9 16 soon for this reason

hey mate look in the rolling circumference and it will show what tyre size they are

245/75 16 is close to a 31
265/75 16 is close to a 32
255/85 16 is slihlty bigger then a 33

i would flick the 16" rims and look for some cheap 15" ones.. but i have my reasons behind that, mainly more side wall on a 15 compared to a 16 of the same size.

why would you want a wider tyre than that?

I dont want to go wider then 10.5, i was asking if i can go wider then the 7" rim cause the rims are 16x7
Lets say i want to put 9" wider on them can i do that ??

89_tintop : I just bought the 16x7 rims lol but thats why im looking for a tyre that has sidebiters on em

you could go a wider rim but I think you would be better off with your rims
you probably wont find a 9" rim more like 8 or 10"

Get some 235/85R16 Federal Couragias.

I have owned and used BFG KM2s, MTRs and Claws and the claws were the only one i would never buy again.

MTRs are so far the best tyre i have had on the zook. I am so far very impressed with the federals from my friends zooks and have only heard good things on the net about them.

Im running the KM MT now (215/75/R15) and they get me through some sticky places so i think ill stay with the BFGs and get the KM2s

But Does anyone have any pics or a sierra running 30.5" (245/75R16) or 31.6" (265/65R16)

Its out of them 2 sizes now :?

What would be 31" in the other way ?? just so i can get my head around all the numbers lol

Best you learn now how to read them then :D

the simple imperial measurements used by allot of 4wd tyres is heightxwidthxrim_diameter. eg: 31x10.5R15 = 31" high, 10.5" wide, 15" diameter rim.

The "metric" system is totally different. width/aspect_ratioxrim_in_inches.
for example the 265/75R16 = 265mm wide, 75% sidewall height of the width, 16" rim.
So to get the imperial width simply take the first number, and divide it by 25.4. 265/25.4 = 10.43"
To get the imperial height multiply the width by the aspect ratio (265x0.75 = 198.75), then multiply it by 2 as you have two sections of sidewall in the measurement of diametre (198.75*2 = 397.5), then divide this by 25.4 to get to inches (397.5/25.4 = 15.65), then add this to the rim measurement (15.65+16 = 31.65").
Hence a perfect world 265/75R16 = 31.65x10.43R16. which is pretty close to what any 32x10.5R16 would be anyway.

So if you want to keep that width, and the 16" rim, but only want 31" tall, start lowering the aspect ratio by intervals of 5%.
265/70R16 = 30.6" and still 10.43" wide. Then find if anyone actually makes that size (I think its fairly common in this case).

OK, hope that makes sense, its 1am and I needed something to do

8O I hate maths lol but thanks a heap for showing me the formula, harder then i thought tho :)

Im going through my "4WD Custom Guide Magazine" on how to fit bigger tyres and they have the Metric and Imperial chart in it so thats how i worked out between

245/75R16
or
265/75R16
So if any of yous have some pics with these size tyres on plz post it up or send it to me i just need to see the diff between both sizes on the car

Cheers guys and thanks for all your help

EDIT: I just got of the phone with my mate that ownes bridgestone in hoppers crossing and he told me the BFG KM2s are $345 each 8O and even he thinks there abit pricy, but he suggested the COOPER STT now they dont look to bad if you ask me, with the sidebiters

http://www.rlgtyres.co.uk/4x4/rlg_tyres ... t_new_.jpg

has anyone used them before ??

I have recently put on my 94 SWB softtop a set of MT MTZ's 31" x 10.5 on 15x8" rims and pretty happy so far.
Granted it is early days but to date they have been good. On road they seem to be fine except I have not driven them in the rain so cant comment. A quick play the other day in some mud in a quarry and they did seem to hold a lot of mud in the tread but still had enough tread to bite in and provide traction.

I had gotten various prices and was close to getting the new BFG KM2 however the MTZ's ended up being cheaper.
I priced Big Horns and Trepadors and the Big Horn pricing wasnt too bad and while the Trepadors looked the part was a bit concerned about how they went onroad.
Bear in mind all my pricing was with new rims as well so that may have played a part in the pricing but in the end MTZ's seemed to be the best for the money.

Cheers

The KM2s do look better i think :P

Got a quote on the KM2s the other day for a set of 5 for 245/75R16 $1725

But he told me to check out the NEW Cooper STT
www.rlgtyres.co.uk/4x4...t_new_.jpg

Now there $270 for 5 for 245/75R16

So im thinking the Coopers now cause they look pretty damn good, 3 ply and shits
