yes of course you can
optimas dont like being trickle charged from flat, the like a faily high amp inital charge and then you can back the amps off.
I think in the paperwork that came with mine a true 10 amp charger was the recommended amount.
maybe check their web site.

its just that someone has dumped one near home and was wondering if it is worth picking it up.

As for the charging comment......what do you think your alternator is doing every time you go for a drive :?

thing is i still have a few things to finish on the zook before there will be any driving.
so if it doesnt like being trickle charged from flat and i cant run the car whats the easiest way to charge them??
do i need to jump start it in another car???

So your saying these thing don't die?? The only thing I've had to do with em is getting them out of the way so I can service the rest of the car.

I had an optima in the boot of my daily driver for 5 years.
In this time it was disconnected and recieved no charge (and no drain also).
When I finally went to reuse it, the voltage had dropped to 10.x volts. Installed it and it still had enough grunt to crank the car and fire it up on the first hit of the key. It was charged by the alternator and hasn't missed a beat in the 12 months since.

They're damn near unkillable (Y).

i picked up that battery and tried starting the car but it was dead so i hooked up the jump leads and ran it for 15 mins and then tried it again and it turned over.
free battery for me!!!!!!!!!
