Yeh, but if you've only got a single stage thermostat, then it should'nt make any differance if it's jammed open. when an engine gets to operating temp, then the thermostat is wide open. I don't understand how this could've been the problem. The timing being out 2 degrees ain't going to do it either.

Well I had it out lastnight and gave it a boot full all night. It never once got over half on the temp gauge. And as I said before I know can get up to and over 110k where I had trouble getting to 100 downhill with the wind. It wasn't dieing on me like it normaly would eather. Its running the best I have seen it.

I think there may be something seriously not right with your engine Dave. You know mines a clean standard 1.3, and it'll easily do 110km/h and I've had it up to 130km/h. Your engine setup should go better than it does.

I have fantastic low end infact I think it is better then most EFIs I have been out with. I don't blow any smoke, It sounds like hell but that is only due to the Dirtbike exauhst on it. It would probably go over 110 but its revings its titts at 100.
It idles fine around 800 to 850.
With the timing light the crank mark was between 2 and 3 marks clock wise off the center mark. I adjusted it to the center mark.
Spark plugs were new when I got it 6 months ago. They look good nothing more then the normal build up on a carby.
The carby was rebuilt by the local carby shop when I built the engine.
There is no bad engine noises. I did an oil change new years day and it was clean.
There were no signs of any problems other then the boil over and lack of power.
When I took the Thermo stat out it was open by about 4mm and it stayed that way. I went int omy parts room and got a new Suzuki one and slapped it in and lifes now good no more boil over.

Now I didn't spend any time looking at it after replacing it , I tossed it into the bin. It may have been stuck half shut/open. That may have been the problem????

Yours is just faster because you waxed it... :)

lol. I can't help it if I'm an anal finnicky bastard. It came at the same time as my mid life crisis. That day out at Wheeny though, your car did smell like it was running quite rich. Have you checked to see if your auto choke is fully opening at operating temp. As for the thermostat, I wonder if sombody previous to you had installed the wrong one, causing the boiling over problem

I have not checked it in a while. At wheeny creek it was boiling over like always. It was running hot and it was dieing on me. It was running a little rich as I had the idle up to stop it from Dieing (I had to do that to keep it running before this fix)

The thermostat only had 90 stamped on it no other markings. So I have no idea what brand or anything. As I stated above after replacing the stat I straightened up the ignition timing and adjusted the idle accordingly.

It now running like a bat out of hell. Last night it didnt stall once. Infact I had it on a crazy angle bouncing it out of a mud hole where I was on almost a 45* anglegetting up a mud step. Nick was with me telling me there was no way I was getting out of it without help.

I am very happy with it right now.

Don't know about timing. I had that tuned by a carby specialist. Mine will sit on:
140km/h on the flat on 29" tyres.
120km/h on the flat with 31" tyres, complete exo-cage and a half-flattened exhaust.
110km/h on the flat on standard tyres with 0PSI compression on cyl1 and 25PSI cyl2. 8O
