I know in syd today there isnt much you can do in this heat but would putting a thermostat in my vit help it stay cool in traffic. Its fine on normal days and nights just when in traffic it starts to head towards the red.

I would like to sort it cause 38 degree's today and sitting in traffic with the heater going full blast and sitting on 3000 rpm couldn't be doing me or the car any good.

take you're rad to a good rad joint, tell them to 'pull' the tanks off and give it a poke.....most joints just do a flush and that is a waste of time as it will not clean the core properly.

Yeah had it done about 3 months ago so the rad is good plus just put a new( second hand) fan on and its working like a trooper can hear it roaring its head off, also not losing masses of coolant top it up once a week and it takes stuff all so thats pretty reasonable for a 93 model.

a thermostat is an important part of the cooling system mate and if you
havent got one ya need to put one in. also if you are using coolant ya
need to work out where it is going and then fix it. all the cooling system bits
are cheap and easy to change especially when failure means a new motor.

Yeah might have to get one tomorrow and yes all is good when moving sits on about 1/4.

Also ive been told to only put suzuki thermo's in it not aftermarket ones is there anything in that?.

new cap new stat good coolant and nip up the ignition timing. If u want a little more a good 10'' electric fan on the front of the radiator will do the trick.

nope but you should have a condenser fan

and a 10" wouldnt cool my mini, 14" or bigger if you even bother

Yeah shroud is still on there and thats what I did before when the fan died I hotwire the aircon fan but it doesn't throw a whole heap at the rad.

Although the more air I can get thru there the better, and it would help more for the traffic I suppose.

I would love to see a picture of any road worthy zook with a 14" fan in front of the rad.

The 10" is a good size to help out in the bush or slow traffic.

But also in saying that the fan could limit the airflow at higher speeds.

What does a 14 inch fan got to do with a road worthy??? I doubt it would block the airflow. Fan it buddy if need be, you will be fine

I did a quick measure this morning....I'd even fit one in my coily. Something fits a coily yeh!!!!!

Don't get too excited Rusho, something will trip you up

As suggested, thermostat, cap and good quality antifreeze/anti boil coolant at the right concentration. Pressure test system to check for leaks also.

i cant see why a 14" fan wouldn't fit on the front of a non aircon sierra either.

Just a thought although the pully for the water pump is rotating doesnt mean that the internals are doing their job. I had a vehicle of mine that showed this type of symtom but on removing the water pump I found the vains had been eroded away.

14" thermo does fit in front of a Radiator on a Sierra , I've seen it done, and NO its not a hack job

Is your engine a EFI or Carby Vit motor? I say this because a mate of mine was having cooling problems recently with his Carby Sierra. The issue turned out to be that two of the water hoses on the inlet manifold/carby area were hooked up wrong. This also messed with the auto-choke.

Definitely make sure you have a thermostat in the thermostat housing. If I recall about an 82deg one is right. My father runs a generic one in his Sierra, and has no problems, I don't think you'd need a genuine Suzuki one.

Ive got the efi so that rules out that but if im correct in thinking that the thermostat would slow the rate of water flow and therefore enable a longer time for cooling in the rad
