ok i have lost my temper with this...

i have a 110amp falcon alt...

last wheeling trip it shit its self...

so, took her out and to the auto electrition, he put it on test bench.. 110amp charge, perfect... wtf... he said could just have some crap it it or something...

so i take her home put it back in and 0 charge... i have checked all wiring,.. i have a switch wire.... didnt work with the one i already had, so ran one straight to battery.. still didnt work, and my actual charge wire is 3gauge amp cable that runs straight from batt to alt.. that is fine 2...

it is putting no load on motor...

so i have NO IDEA what so ever... i have organised another replament alt that i hope makes it here in time.. but any one elce have any ideas

Have you got a battery light showing in the dash when ignition is on? Does this go out once the car is started??

ok what you want to do is check the following.

1- that you have battery power to the terminal on the back of the alternator.
2- in the 2 pin plug on the alternator one should illuminate the test light. this is the sense. the other when probed with the test light should illuminate the battery light in the gauge cluster.

if you are missing any of the 3 things above then the alternator wont charge.

i you have all 3 things then its an alternator fault.

i am pretty sure i have them all....

for the light on the cluster.. does the alt supply a earth or positive for it to iluminate? i am guessing a earth off what i have found...

I had a T5 Transporter doing exactly the same thing. The spring holding one of the brush's had lost its pressure and when it was on the bench would work fine because of how it was being held on the bench gravity was holding the brush in place but in the car gravity was holding it back.
It took us about 2 days to figure it out.

Just something to look at.

Did you put the Alt and battery under load when testing for charging ? Like turning all your lights/spoties on ?

x 2. Ensure the light is coming on when you turn the key to the on position. If not, work out why it isn't. The light is required to ecite the diodes in the alternator and get the whole show kicking.

Actually the alternator supplies a positive feed to the light. The battery also gives a positive feed to the other side of the light, so when the alternator is charging, there is no voltage potential across the light and it goes out.

1. Check all youre terminals for corrosion, especially the heavy gauge wire that goes from youre alternator to youre starter/battery. Since you have upgraded the alternator you should have also replaced this cable to a heavier gauge. You dont have to, but its a good idea. Check that the cables are still in good condition.
2. Check the 15amp fuse that supplies youre alternator and several sensors/switches in zook. Hell check all fuses while you are there. Check that you have B+ voltage at the B/W wire directly at the alternator.
3. With engine running, check if you have at least 12.5 to 14 volt at the W/R wire. Also disconnect the sensor on the master cylinder if you have one. Also diconnect dash and check if you have the same voltage on teh same W/R wire behind the dash.

ok its altinator..

when i turn IGN on.. the 2 pin plug to the alt both have power... (light/switch wire)

Dave. i was actualy thinking the same thing as that last night, on the bench it is was held up 180' from what it is in the car!

there is no corosion or anything.. it is all nice and good

yeah and also should lift batt voltage up to around 13V.. and it should increese when you rev the motor.

partialy true..

i assumed he was testing it with a test light and wanted to know where to connect the end to.
