T-Case output shaft removal

Ok. I've got my case apart, but no matter what I do I cannot get the output shaft to budge out of the rear case. I've hit it with a hammer, dropped it shaft first onto a concrete floor, and I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone give me any hints?

Also, as I don't have access to a press, am I going to struggle with removing and replacing gears and bearings on these shafts?

Oh well I guess I'm up for a challenge then... I'm not gonna pay some rip-off merchant mechanic to fit em for me...

She may be Bearing Loctite'd.. :lol:

Take the gears/shaft to a workshop and get them to press them off, and press on the new ones. Should'nt cost u much. 30mins work..

Its been a while since doing my transfer gears and bearings but from member I did everything with a gear puller, a bmf hammer and some gentle love taps.

buy a press! i did for rebuilding the gearbox on my MR2- since i have had $$$$ worth of use out of it.

YEs!! Where the speedo cable enters the rear case there is a machined holder. The speedo bullet! This houses the speedo drive gear and has to be removed. Can be done by a small chisel or pliers. Just soak it in WD first.

If you haven't removed this and follow Brendan's advice your speedo drive gears will be smashed if the arn't already.

step by step for everything, i followed these and had absolutly no problems. A press would be ideal but i have seen some people just use a vice, hammer and a piece of pipe. In these instructions they use a piece of pipe. BTW what gears do you have and are you putting new bearings in?

Ok, I cannot get the speedo drive to budge... I've given it loads of WD40 and got the vice grips on it but it just won't budge. Any tips?

Mate i did the same thing fir first time I split my case open...

I used vice grips, then tapped them with a hammer to get the speedo bullet to rotate. Use heaps of wd40 too. Just keep rotating it one way, then the other, and it should eventually come out, mine did.

there are a few different ways to get it out.

The best way I have found is with a small set of vice grips, crimp them on as tight as you can then jiggle the shit out of it or take a small hammer and tap it out. Out of the 10 or so I have built I have only had 1 I couldnt get out like that and I had to use a Oxy to heat it up then do the same thing.

Anyone know where you can get the rubber seal for these things, all the bearing shops I go to have the steel outer ones but they a Bee's too big.
