to make it a little better/stronger/safer? you could plate the bottom and back if you wanted to hide the plates, OR, just plate the top and front if you don't care if people can see it. Adding some plates would help with strength and take some stress off the current welded joins.

i forgot to mention that there is a piece of rhs inside the towbar it wasn't a great fit but it is fairly close. it will do for now but i think i might start collecting
bits to build one properly as this one will be a hassle in the bush.

yeah thats what i would like to do, i would need to have a drop hitch but it
would be removable. i wanted to build a rear bar before i left Katherine but i
just ran out of time. i even have some really cool LED taillights.
i have really just nailed this together so i can get my boat to the water.

i know a bloke that puts a pallet in the back of his hiux ute to lower the back, so that eliminates the need for a drop hitch

not yet. there has been a cyclone buzzing around and we have had 50 to 90kph winds
