Rather than hijacking another thread, I started this one.

My fuel gauge never gets to full, the max it will register is about 3/4 full.
Is this indicative of a faulty sender unit or a faulty gauge?
I have never run it dry, so I don't know where empty really is, but I would prefer it read as full occasionally...

i have this issue too. when i fill up if i let it click a couple of times it will register only 3/4 tank but if i sit there and keep filling till its nearly coming back out on the ground it will register full.
try that and see if you get a full tank.
then you can reset the trip meter and take a jerry with you then run it dry to see what sort of kms your getting to a tank for future reference.

I have filled it to the point of overflow, but it still maxes out at 3/4...
I will do the run dry test someday...

reach above the tank you will see the fuel sender wire, unplug ti and short it to the chassis and see if it reads full, if it does short it to the tank, if it still reads full its the sender or tank not getting full, if it reads full on the chassis clean where the tank bolts to the chassis to fix the bad earth

if it still reads bad you may have bad earths, run a new lead from the battery negative to the body, fixes most faults

better off using a test light through earth to test the gauge cuz if u leave the earth on there for too long u can wreck ya gauge.

i would also pull sender right out if gauge reads ok and manualy lift it right up to see if gauge reads full.

can spray and wipe contacts with contact cleaner if sender is faulty, can some times work, the float may also be sinking a bit if its got fuel in it
