ok im new to the 4WD scene. what do i need to get.. 1x complete 1.3 transfer plus 1x 1ltr transfer???? than swap and machine gears from 1ltr to put in my 1.3 housing??? thats what i can make out from reading page 6 to 9.......by the way i have a 92 seirra with 1.3:)

yeh thats right.u dont swap all gears just ones stated.also keerp or replace the bearings of the 1.3.
the 1l case must be the one with switch i think without the drum onit.

Also, does it make reverse extremely low also? If so, itt worries me a tad, as that is how I get out of bogs most of the time - rocking back and fowards like a crazy lady...

It only changes low range high range remains the same

And the reduction in standard 1.3 is 2.2:1 in low. This gives you 2.5:1 in low range instead

is that change from 2.2 to 2.5 worth the messing around... does it make mch of a defference??
and is any one willing to make up one to sell as a change over/ exchange. if so how much... not that im lazy just dont want to mess it up and cost more

yes u can buy the gear but its costly, to me it was worth the mess around.
isn't series 1 good enough for u? i have 32in tyres and think its fine. Its 90% reduction in low?
if i had the time i would but got to many things going on thsi year.
i think its any after like 86 or 89. ask royce or steve they should know

I think everyone is getting confused here

based on 1.3 standard gearing

a 1 litre transfer drops overall gearing (high and low) by about 10%, useful to get your gearing back after fitting bigger tires but no bonus off road

a series one transfer give 1 litre high range gearing and a 4.16 low ratio, which is about 90% reduction in low range and very useful in all but sand, top speed is about 35kmhr in low 5th gear

then there is the calmini set, they are 5.12 low range, and the same as above in high (I think), they are also known to be very strong and well built gears, but sometimes hard to get, they are good for 31-32" sierras that are also street driven

then the series 3, they are like 6.5 or something in low range and 20%reduction in high, might be pushing it on road with anything smaller than 31's and IMHO they are a bit too low for smaller than 33's but thats just talking out my ass cause I never had them so others would be better to comment, there have also been issues of the gears breaking for no reason.

the ones oscar have is basically a few gears from a 1.3 and a few from the late 1 litre transfer (look for the 1 litre case with a 4wd switch, thats the one you need) its the same gearing as series one (infact early series ones were just this till they started making new gearsets) and if you can get the machine work done for a decent price and good quality they will go the distance, mine did over 100 000km and are still going strong somewhere I imagine

given most gears cost $1000 vs the cost of finding a late 1 litre transfer and getting the work done you may or may not come out in front, it really hinges on how cheap you can find a transfer

now thats what we needed.
i can get the gears done for $220 there abouts.
If u dont want some experience in this stuff ask ya local mechanic, he maybe able to help with the disasembleing and assembling.
my total cost was 1l case-already had.$150
gears. $220
bearings and seals are optional. $130 i think

cause there hardened gears. maybe tig of arc?

i'd say tig which is the best for that sort of thing.. naah sorry but i got no time to work for other atm. got to much to do on my own.
