Can some one explain to me what offset and back-spacing are, because I have no idea.

back space is the distance from the part of the wheel that touches the brakes (the wheel mounting surface) to the inside lip of the rim (where the tire would but up to, not the furtherest point)

offset is the distance from the centre of the rim the wheel mounting surface, positive offset is when the mounting surface is closer to the outside of the rim and negative when its closer to the inside

a typical good sierra rim is -13mm offset 7" rim, which is 3" backspacing

same rim sticks out about 50mm on a vit

sierras stock are 0 offset (I think) vitaras are +20mm (I think)

do you know what would a Daihatsu Feroza rim would be, because i put friends spare wheel on to see what it would look like, it had 225/70R15 on it and the wheel just stuck out buy about 1-1.5cm.

mate there could be a few it could be depending on model and whether they are even stock rims

if it stuck out a bit I would reckon on it being maybe around -10 to 15 mm

I have an set of new wheels that are -15 off set and will hopefully let me clear some 31's!

They where from a place called speedy rims and me and another bloke got them for $48 a wheel! They are the same as the old jeep cj wheel aparently!

Still on offsets, someones said before that early model f100 wheels have the right offset for good clearance on sierra's. Any other model vehicles that have similar desired offset as the f100 ones are hard to come by.
What other vehicles will fit that have good offset?

anybody thought of turning stock wheels around (inside of wheel pointing to the outside) 'cause wouldn't that be changing how far out the wheel would sit or would that just look really stupid and put more strain than there should be on some parts.

you can "flip" the rims, some people cut the inside out (where it meets the rim) and weld it in facing the other way so it gives more offset. They usually do that with the old narrow track stocker rims.
