Hello,

I took my 2005 Grand Vitara for a bit of offroading and whilst crossing a small creek I fell in a hole.

The car filled up with water nearly up to the steering wheel. It was up to the "Suzuki" on the spare wheel.

We pulled her out cleaned her up a bit.

When I was driving it yesterday it was very sluggish. It felt as if it was running out of fuel. I got it home and drove it to the mechanics this morning and they said the computer got wet and they're cleaning it up.

Anyone have an idea whether it's expensive to replace them or any other damage possibly done?

you could have also got water in your fuel tank & a whole lot of other places that didn't a bath...

is the ECU on the drivers side kick panel... i wonder if it can be damaged by submersion?

And this is exactly why you check the depth ALL the way across before attempting to drive through a water crossing....

I think it might be under the kick panel.


I hope there's nothing in the fuel tank, I just filled it up with premium!!

I've only had it for 2 months or so, the Mrs would kill me if it got to that extent. Plus, it's insured in her name and her excess is about $1500

IF the ecu is fried you will most likly belooking at more than 1500 i would think

Throw in a bottle of Metho, that will clear all the water out !

Yeh, my previous ones were free also. It was due a service soon anyway.

check diffs, gearbox and transfer oils. If they look like full cream milk change them straight away ......thats is if you dont have any breathers setup.

i am with royce on this one...

you may fix all the problem going on now. but down the track you will have dramas. water gets into wiring plugs and causes corrosion.

i have had cars that have been running sweet after being drowned, but months down the track little things start to happen.

call it a valuable lesson and pay the $1500

if the insurance company do choose to fix it then anything that is caused by the water damage, but takes its time to show up then they will cover that.

your very lucky the engine didnt suck the water in that would have been it for the little GV......

If it's going to cost $1500 for a standard ecu, You might as well get an aftermarket ecu for about $1200 and mount it anywhere you like, At least it can be retuned to whatever mods you may have or plan to do.

The mechanic said he's cleaning it all up, I should get it back tomorrow. I'll let you's know what was done once I find out..

mate either call you insurance or get it running and sell it. Once water gets in new ish cars like yours it is the beginning of the end. With the water as high as you said it was you will never find it all. You will find IF you keep it, in a few weeks things like your door locks will start to play up then it will be you A/C then then then then then then then......

Wreck it or sell it to some non english speeking over payed guy from a nother town.
