Got my engine out tonight to replace rear main, what else is important, new clutch about 10000 ago should I check spigot and the other bearing coming out of the g box. ?????? Where will I get the crank seal from?

Somewhere like Burson's or local bearing and seal
shop. shouldn't be too expensive.

heh easier to take g/box out to replace rear main.
you could replace the front seal in the gearbox , but the bearing cant be replaced without stripping the g/box

Yeh thought about takin g box but to arkward under car. Motor only took 2 he's to get out and t pull fly wheel etc off

Here is a question, how does one get the spigot bearing out? Can you take the flywheel off and tap it out from behind or do you have to pull it from the friction side of the flywheel?

flywheel off and poke it out with ya finger. then change your rear main seal.

Do not worry everyone got it from repco today for $22. not bad i rekon. got my engine tidied up and back in this arvo holy shit was that an effort. changed rear main and rear crank shaft seal. Just have to remember where all the tubes go tomorrow.

Am I reading this correctly or am I missing something???? Did you pull your complete engine out to replace your rear main seal? Interesting.
Do you pull your front wheels off to change a brake light bulb?

hahahha. nice one. i pulled my engine out to change rear main and rear crankshaft seal because it would be less arkward. there was alot of dirt and shit that needed cleaning. it has worked out much better this way.

I hope that rear main seal was a NOK seal. If not your wasting your time. If it was one of those Kelpro ones or the other cheapies you will be doing it again in the next 12 months. Always specify that you want NOK. These are what they use from factory. I just had to order some up from Sydney for my rear diff pinion it was $17, so I got two

I don't think I'm wasting my time cause the gush of oil will be gone. I replaced it with the same brand as I pulled out. Bugger, it was Kelpro. Looked alright though.

Just so you know next time you can take the jack shaft out, take the shifter out, unbolt the starter and the bell housing and slide the gearbox back far enough to pull the clutch/flywheel out without ever taking the gearbox completely out. It will move back about 30cm. If you lean it over on its side you can move it back further then that. The gearbox will rest on the2 frame cross bars. (the one that can be removed and the one just in nere the transfer) I did this by my self on my back in 2.5 hours taking my time.

I am unsure what mine is, i replaced mine when i put the 2nd 1.6 in. Now its f'ing leaking..like everything else..

Thanks vw I appreciate it but I new that. Just seemed like a better option taking motor out, I have never done it before so thought it would be a bit of fun. It worked out good aswell because I found a broken engine mount.

Ok so seals changed, all back together but now i have a strange noise. Its there in nuetral with the clutch out but clutch in and it goes away. im thinking throw out bearing maybe or do i need to re addjust the clutch cause i moved it. also havent checked oil level in gearbox???? woops.
