Hey guys,

I'm up for a oil change and just wanted to get some opinions on oils and engine flush. Im willing to pay upto $60 on oil and I have heard that Nulon and Castrol Edge have a pretty good rep but I just wanted to know if this is true. Is it worth doing engine flushs?

Stick with what it has been using. But Castrol Magnatec I would use if it is still in top condition

Just a tip..
My engine flush technique removed ALOT of gunk from previous cars by doing it this way. My theory behind it is whats the point of cleaning the inside of the motor with dirty oil. And yes, oil flush's do work in removing built up crap from bits you can't see.

drain oil
fill with shitty $9 engine oil
add Nulon engine oil flush
drive for 10-20 mins
drain oil
change oil filter with a new one !!
fill with good quality 10w40 semi synthetic, I use penrite


If you want to spend $60 just on oil, I think MOTUL is the shiznit. But really, If it's a stock G16B, GTX3 would be just as good and leave you money left over for a carton of piss.

i like your theory, i might have to give that a shot one day, my engine is pretty clean, 5000km oil changes & an engine flush every time... would be interesting to see what came out with the clean oil?

did you use the dirty filter?

In a well maintained engine not much crap would come out, but the clean oil would help flush out the old dirty oil.

And DUH of course I used the old dirty oil filter.. just blow it out with degreaser, she be roight....

I keep the old filter on until the "flush oil" is drained, remove and replace filter and pour in the good quality fresh oil.

i was thinking about slamming a new filter + cheap oil & a flush through it just to see what comes out...

never done it but was told that engine oil flush is not good, as that gunk helps creat a seal on the pistons. dont know how true it is

One old way to check your engine's health and it's an interesting thing to do, hack open the old filter, fold out the pleats, scrape all the shit onto a clean piece of paper and then you can see what's going on.

When I did this with a 10,000km old rebuilt engine I found gasket goo, metal filings even paint from when I painted the valve cover. This was it's 2nd oil change.

A mate did this to his rebuilt motor and found alot of metal filings, We pulled the sump off and found the conrod bolts wern't torqued up correctly wearing out the bearing races. By finding this out, it prevented owning a $9000 anchor.

mine cops an engine flush every 5000kms... engine seems fine, although it only had 70,000km when I got it & it now has 130,000 something on it. it's still very clean in the rocker cover

Brendan - the gunk build up I think your talking about is the valve protection that leaded fuel gave. Lead built up around the valves to prevent them burning out.

Gunk build up in the engine, not good.

I did that flush on a VR commo, I loved watching the blobs of built up shit coming out, At times it clogged the drain hole. So I repeated the flush, With new sparkies the motor felt like new after that, revved out smoother and quicker, fuel efficiency improved and just sounded better.

Just to clarify, do you actually drive with the engine flush in??? I've always been told that is a big NO NO as the flush thins the oil too much and changes the chemical properties. As a result it doesnt protect the engine when under shock load. Hence why most engine flush directions will only suggest idle for 10-15 mins where the engine isnt loaded.

Just wanted to raise the question in case anyone new otherwise...

I dont use flush anymore cause there is always some oil left in the sump
But i use motul synthetic and inside my engine is clean.

Your ment to pull the plug out!!

Know what you mean, Normaly if I do a flush the car will sit with the plug out for about 1/2hr, this doesn't let it all out, but is better than 10min's.
The car will of been idling for around 20min's to, so frigging hot, lot's of naughty word's whispered quietly.
