its hard to say mate.. how long is a piece of string.

if it isnt using water or oil then all sounds good..

so keep it and mod it..

how is it running?
what is the power like?
whats the rest of the car like? if its in good condition then it would be worth modding.

throw up some pics

239,000km is pushing the boundaries of a healthy lifespan for a 1.3.
They usually get low on compression and low on power between 225,000 & 275,000 and are burning copious oil by 300,000.
If I were you I'd at least put rings and bearings in before any other mods, maybe even a full rebuild which isn't that dear.

EDIT: Left out an A & it was getting an abandonment complex...

cost me 750 to rebuild mine...
i did
-rings
-bearings (big-end and mains)
-head was recoed and shaved
-block was decked and bored to suit the over sized pistons
-timing belt kit
-waterpump
-rear main seal

probably some other things i missed

didnt pay for the pistons though. so add on another 160 or around that for them

You can get decent engines from 150 up..

Grab yourself a haines manual or download the PDF off hear.. The manual is pretty indepth and kind of makes it's easy if you don't know what you are doing.

At least you know what has been done and that it will bee good for another 200000 klms. If it's your daily, look for a cheap 2nd hand engine and rebuild it, that's what I did.

You also get the satisfaction of building it your self instead of paying someone to do things to your car. You have bought a car that is really easy to work on and great to learn the basics, as that is what they are, basic. Take the opportunity to do it your self and learn.

If its not using fluids then thats a good start... Do a compression test, and if it all checks out ok and its running sweet then I'd be inclined to give it some new leads and plugs and the like, give the carby a once over then get to wheeling it!

Another thing, are you sure it hasn't been rebuilt at all in the past? The motor may only have 20,000km on it, you never know!
