I need to move my rear diff back about 2-3" in the ute im building (the transfer has been moved back). i know that i could have the drive shaft shortened, but it would be a hassle to get another one if it ever needs to be replaced. So i have decided on longer rear springs and moving the shackle mount if needed.

I know that some people put lux front springs in the rear to move the diff. Do they get any lift from them? How much longer are the lux springs compared to the zook rears? I know that the lux springs are 10mm wider then the zooks, and the mounts can be bent out to fit. Does the shackle need to be modified as well?

Are there any other springs that could be used?

i use a mazda 323 wagon rear main spring in the rear of my swb...my rear shackle mount is effectively moved back about 60mm to run a decent shackle angle. I've made the rest of the pack up with OME Medium duty rears which I had kicking around loaded up i have around 50mm lift.

The spring centre bolt hole is in a weird position though. if you run the long bit of the spring at the back using the standard chassis mount hole at the front it puts your diff about 1 inch forward of standard. If you flip it around it puts your diff around 3 inchs rear of standard so it might suit.

After saying this the effort we go to for crazy flex is usually outdone by putting a locker in.

This situation the driver was able to drive out of. you'll never get flex like that even with coilovers and links...but with lockers...you can drive out of it!

I don't have a decent pic but I swapped my old 1.3 radiator for a pair of piranha scissor shackles and I run them backwards with the top part of the shackle resting flat on the back of the chassis and then the rest of the shackle at a decent angle down to the spring...it means on compression the bottom half of the shackle flexes backwards like a normal shackle but then on droop i get the benefit of the scissor shackle opening right up and I get another few inches of droop out of it...

yeah i cant wait to get it running, hopefully in the next 6 months
ill be looking around at the wreckers for the mazda springs, what year model were they in, any leaf sprung rear end?

The problem with mazda springs is, If you snap one. They are a PITA to find again as they are rare. I have done it!!
80's 323 wagon only. Or 808 mazda's have heard they are similar.

I now run ke30/55. Running them the right way the diff locates in stock postion. Running them the wrong way, They are 100mm longer then the mazda's! There is more info in my build..

Any of the last mentioned springs will need to be reset if you want lift.

BlueSuzy i just had read through your build, both the rolla and mazda spring packs you have used seem really good. ill have a look around at the wreckers and see what i can find, maybe pedders might have main leafs there to suit.

You will be able to get main leafs with a pin in a better position full custom.

Id get main and fullsize 2nd leaf custom. (again if snap equals dramas)Then get other leafs to suit from wreckers etc.

I knew there was more somewhere on here. My post with ke30/55 springs are correct, i think the excel sheet size for ke30/55 is incorrect.
