OK, I realise this is a longshot, but I am having trouble finding something to suit, and someone might just know on the off chance


Basically I am after something for a top radiator hose for my Sierra. Its got a standard SJ70 radiator, but has a SQ416 Grand Vitara G16 motor.

The pictures of the made up 2 piece hose I have been using are below. The problem with my made up hose, is to make the join in the middle work, it has a solid piece of tube inside (for the clamp to clamp on). This has made the hose very stiff, and is causing my radiator top tank to crack on the solders. The required ID is 35mm, the radiator is smaller, but that is very easy to work around .

So if anyone knows anything that they might think is close, let me know . I've been through the super-cheap (expensive) hose bin, and nothing there suits.

tryed the corrugated ones with the spring in the middle? there is one in dads shed you can try if you want.

How much force do they take to hold at a tight bend roughly? The ones dad has here (admitadly a different style to the ones Bruce linked), are way to stiff for the very tight bends I need.

The Grand Vitara manifold (hence thermostat housing) is different to other 1.6's. A Sierra hose is too small, its only ~25mm ID, and a Sierra thermostat housing will not fit the 1.6 manifold. I don't know what a Vitara or Grand Vitara radiator hose is like?

Cut and weld a Sierra thermostat spout onto the GV housing.. Run a stock Sierra top hose.. Problem solvered.

The GV thermostat housing is plastic

had this problem when i put the v6 into the mr2. Muffler shop made up some joiners for me just by flaring some muffler pipe- they work great!

Wouldn't that work the same as what I already have though? a joiner in the middle and 2 90degree bends? I need something all rubber so it can flex.

whats a jimny hose look lke?

or maybe have a longer two piece hose (travels in not such a direct route)so it has more rubber to flex but still has the metal to join it.

Hey Aaron,
Have you tried Repco or Walkers Auto one they have a picture book that you could try and size up up a suitable hose.

As Darren said maybe use a U bend or similar and use longer rubber hoses.

Don't know what a G13bb Jimny is like. I know the M13A Jimny wont work though, its a single 90 degree I beleive

I won't have room to do what your saying Darren, because the airbox hose is just above it, and kills most of my room there. I already had a look . I went and saw yourt Dad, the flexy you got is too big, it just starts to kink at the angles required, but maybe a smaller diameter one wouldn't?

David, Walkers were no good, nor super cheap or Autobarn. I just had to go get some Power steer fluid, and tried Repco. They got one thats vaguely close (better than anything I've seen so far), it was cheap enough, so I grabbed it. Will see if I can make it work tomorrow after I put the steering box back in. The hose is from a 92 Ford Courier 2.6L 4WD of all things...
