I got a couple of things I want to do just to get my wheels up to scratch.


1 - New steering wheel. Are they easy to replace? Is the steering qwheel bolt pattern a generic one? What troubleshooting tips should I keep in mind?

2 - Halogen headlights. Stock ones are a little dim running through the Brissy hinterland at night, not to mention my current lights are mismatched, and the reflector bowl they sit in lets more light in the engine bay than onto the road. Can anyone recommend/discourage halogen lights? I don't want spotties, just better stock lights.

3 - Retrim my seats. Got a massive tear on the drivers seat. Happy enough with the stock seats, just wondering if anyone has had a retrim and what price they payed for it?

4 - Fix speedo. Seems I'm going at least 10kms faster than everyuoine else in traffic... can you calibrate the speedo or will I have to buy a whole new dial?

5 - Intermittent wipers. Sierras have two speeds - slow, and slow. I wanty to install an intermittent function, not sure if you can though. Any leads would be fantastic

1. Yep easy to replace, can use a vitara one or give me $100 and ill sell you a boss kit and racing steering wheel in black.
2. make sure the headlights you get are sealed as most arent and you get water in them easily
3. seat retrim by maria & mu canvas- shes doing my rear seat for under $200 so thats a good estimate.
4. dunno if u can fix this easily, probs easier to print out a new speedo gauge and put over the top of your old one.

what model do you have to not have intermittent wipers? did they come out later than I thought? I would be adapting the factory stuff in

the headlights. I like the crystal style lenses and plus 50 style bulbs but on a sierra you must fit headlight relays or its jsut a complete waste of time, the skinny factory wiring runs through some 12m so there is massive voltage drop

I installed IPF headlights (not sealed), upgraded loom from arb and 130/90 phillips globes into mine.
Bulb pack was $12 from Bursons, each IPF housing was $60ish, and the loom I cant remember.
But now I dont need spotties. Can see clear as day for a km with just the high beams on. Low beam, really spreads the light around low.

The main reason for this path was I hated the fact I couldnt see anything on low beam.

I have had a little water get into one of the housings, but i can handle replacing $60 housing in a few years if its a problem.

3. Tear on drivers seat? i suspect where the seatbelt rubs? Fit aftermarket or retrim, is up to you.

4. Fix speedo? I just put my satnav on the holder in the spot besides the clock. The flap is broken on mine. fits really nice.

5. Wipers? I have no idea, mine work fine.

EDIT:
Jan 2012 I discovered both my IPF housings have cracked. No evidence of stone chips, appears to be thermal stresses (too much heat inside, too cool outside)

How old is your sierra?

my 85 LWB has intermittent wipers. i will bet that your wiper arms are half
rusted, drop ya windscreen down and lube the arms up. if they free up i will bet you will then have intermittent wipers.

i think he has hi and lo but hes just saying that they are crap. i found from honda to sierra a massive change in speeds to the sierra on fast being like my middle speed on my honda

Mine only has slow and slower on the switch. I'm going to do a lube job on the linkages and also check the voltage at the motor maybe

I got Int, Slow and Fast on the ST(1985,1.3) and Slow and Fast on the HT(1984,1.0). I feel spoilt..
