Hi everybody,

My name is Jed, from New Zealand, so go ahead, ive had every sheep joke over on Ausmini

I have bought a SJ413, with the g13a lump in it. I drives great for a little while, then it seems to starve of fuel and stop. I have :

* tried elec fuel pump
* Got vac secondary working - this made it accelerate better!
* Removerd and checked air filter (refitted)
* Rmoved engine breather
* checked compression (cyl 4 down 15%, but meh) rest ok

Im lost, anyone got some wisdom?

It will idle all day, no issues, it will toodle arround at 50k, its as soon as it runs at 70k for more than 3 min, or tries to go up hill for any leinght of time.

Im ready to set it on fire!

first of all sierras are a lot easier to work on than minis, trust me

when you say it starves of fuel, have you checked its run out? pop the air horn off the carby and pump the throttle to see if the accel pump shoots any fuel out, if so its not fuel and may pay to check the ignition

if it does, what do you need to do to get it to go again? jsut crank for a bit till it gets fuel up and off it goes? if so then look at the fuel filter underneath the rear on the right hand chassis rail and that the fuel lines in general arent blocked
another long shot but try a run with the cap off and a rag in there so it can breathe, incase the tank cant vent for some reason

Have tried the fuel cap thing - this was a problem
and removed both filters (will replace these)

Th fuel pump also has an oil leak, so i did wonder if excess crankcas pressure under load was causing the diaphram to, well, stop. But an elec pump didnt solve the problem.

Acceleratot pump is working. and it just takes a bit of a crank and she starts up...
You can see what makes me confused!

Yhink i will strip the carb and inspect the float etg, then start looking at the ignition.

didnt ya know that i am illiterate.

mad kennys used to do the same and it ended up being crap in the fuel tank
blocking the fuel pickup. if you are lucky it will have a drain plug if not it is a
tank out fix.

?THE Maori component of the expatriat New Zealand population in Australia was greater than the Maori component of the total population residing on the other side of the Tasman, a leading population expert says.
Professor Peter McDonald, who is chairing a public inquiry into the need for a population policy in Queensland, said one of the biggest drivers of the state's growth was newly arrived New Zealanders due to the relaxed travel and settlement agreements between the two countries.

He told the inquiry's Brisbane hearings that two major components of population growth – New Zealand migrants and foreign students – would be difficult to reduce.

Studies show there are about 110,000 Maori in Australia, representing about one in four of all New Zealand migrants who have settled here.

This compares with about 15 per cent of New Zealand's total population declaring themselves to be Maori.


Prof McDonald, the director of the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute, and fellow population and infrastructure experts Professor Lyndsay Neilson and Keith Hilless will head the inquiry set up by the Local Government Association of Queensland

The inquiry is due to produce an interim report by May.

AS for the fuel problem it may be a partially blocked fuel line that doesn't allow enough flow or a kinked steel line somewhere in the system.

ALSO could be a floater in the fuel tank that blocks the pick up tube as it sucks fuel through

Also could be as simple as needle and seat is set to low so that it runs better on angles off road

check the charcoal canister and its breather lines. they are a service item......but never get serviced.
